Yard aging washes tannins and bitterness out of wood. With todays barrel shortages no one has older yard aged wood available. It will be interesting to compare these EHTs with the Woodford seasoned oak release from a few years back and see what flavors and characteristics that they both have in common.

Barrels made with long yard aged and then toasted wood yield a very thickly sweet product. Best guess is the EHT and Woodford barrels are/were charred.

If the label says "bourbon" then the barrel has to be charred.

I seem to recall there was a recent release of a couple of BTEC whiskies that was a comparison of staves aged for 6 months versus 13 months. But that was 15yo whiskey. Doubt this CEHT release is anywhere near that age. I recall liking them both but don't remember if one was better than another off hand. Sounds like something to reevaluate over the holiday weekend.

I think most folks are thinking September or October at the earliest. But I don't think a release date has been announced. If the label just hit TTB it could be a few weeks.

Or never! :bigeyes:

Although these seem pretty likely. It might be on the BT website but I couldn't find anything with a brief search.
