KyleCBreese
Did a 10-year old SBS. Bulleit 10 vs HMK 10-year from 2011. Before this, I would've said Bulleit would be the winner, but the HMK came out on top by a longshot.
garbanzobean
A local store gave me the opportunity to try both of the picks they made for the Four Roses private barrels they will be getting in this fall. OESF and OESQ. No age statement or ABV on the sample bottles. The OESF nosed well, but was surprisingly rye-forward and a little hot, but they said they picked it because people had been asking for the FRSBLE2014 so much. It reminds me of an OESO I had that was a bit hot at first, but settled down beautifully with some water. The OESQ smelled like bananas, and an absolutely gorgeous creamy mouthfeel. For the taste, I picked up bananas (first time I've tasted that in bourbon), chocolate, and a good dose of baking spices to finish things off. I'm not sure if I'll get one of each or two bottles of the OESQ. Definitely looking forward to it either way.
horn1602
Celebrating what was the final day of 9 years of training starting with medical school and culminating in a fellowship. Starting with a hefty pour of PHC7 followed by who knows what? Possibly the EC21 I picked up today to celebrate... Possibly some store select Dickel 9yr... Oh the choices this hobby allows us!! El Vino
Buffalo Trace Experimental Collection Wheat 90. I admit I was hoping to find a flavor profile in line with the PVW 10YO or Lot B and I was not disappointed. While it lacked some of the complexity found in those expressions, it does posses the depth of flavor I enjoy so much from the younger PVWs. Loaded with sweet mildly smoky oak and vanilla. At $79 a bottle (purchased at Specs in San Antonio while on business several months ago) not much of a value but since I got shut out at the last Pappy release, it gave me a reminder of why I keep looking. kjbeggs
I don't want to clog the thread thanking everyone for their condolences on the passing of my Grandmother, but I appreciate all of them, from the guys I've been fortunate enough to meet (like DCBT), to those I only know "virtually". Just another example of the "Brotherhood" on this board (whether you are a brother or a sister).Tonight, I opened my Old Potrero Rye, with the intention of making myself a Manhatten (since I was out of Rittenhouse). Of course, I sampled it first, and found it a very unique Rye. It has an almost scotch-like smokiness.I did eventually make a Manhatten with it, using Carpano Antica and two bitters (Fee Brothers Chocolate and Black Walnut). Garnished with a MM cherry and a flamed orange peel. The result was fantastic!
Paddy
My condolences to you as well beggs. I opened the evening with a hefty pour of Taylor SmB and a nice smoke. Reading of your loss gave me reason to recall some fine memories of my late grandmothers. Cheers to you and yours!

393foureyedfox
celebrated two things today....a friends 65th b-day....and being hired for the exact job I wanted. I start Monday, and am ecstatic!at the gathering for both today at another friend's house, I took along a big bowl of fresh from the garden tomatoes for the potluck dinner, and the rest of the bottle of OGDBIB that Ive been trying to get rid of. I was about to dump it down the drain, but figured someone over there would like it, and when I left, there was one pour left. Im glad someone enjoyed it. I had an enjoyable pour of 108 WTRB myself. Not as good as the 112, but better than I remember the 108 being. WT is doing something right....congrats to you too, Horn1602!

MauiSon
Popped a bottle of KCSB - first taste - straight hazelnut, but not the whole nut - just the furry skin part. Start to finish. Added water - no change. I'll see if some air-time or palate-adaptation can change this beast.

Phil T
Good afternoon fellas. I'm enjoying a TPS selected, standard FRSB. Bottled after 9yrs and 4 months in the barrel. Like so many here, I love the various barrel proof store selections and the recipes available. But gosh darn, the regular ol' single barrel is very very good, readily available, and only 30 bucks
GaryT
My condolences to beggs as well, as well as congrats to Doug! After a few days off, I had some KC at the bar - which left me wanting. mbroo5880i
A great week for some and a difficult week for others. Condolences to Beggs and Ben. Congratulations to Doug! I am going to have a taste of one of my new Four Roses Barrel Strengths in your honor!I ended up coming home with three Crown barrel selects today. A Henry McKenna, 10 year, Warehouse P. They had two barrel picks, Warehouse P and F. I had to pop it when I got home and it is very good. It is oak/caramel nose. It is very spicy with a cinnamon kick followed by pepper and heat on the back end. I would compare it to some of the better store select EWSB 2003/04s that I have had.I also picked up a couple of Four Roses Barrel Strengths, OBSV (117.8 proof) and OBSQ (121.2 proof). I am going to pop open the OBSQ to celebrate Doug's new job!
