been gone for a couple of days... condolences as well to beggs, the older I get the more loss seems to chew me up, even though I should be getting more used to it. Wish either of my grandmothers were still around. My dad's birthday would have been tomorrow, and he's no longer with us either. Having some High West 36th Vote in his honor, in his old Green Bay Packers rocks glass. Had to add a bit of rye to make it just right.

Sorry, don't mean to be maudlin. Congrats to Doug, on a plus note.

Thanks for the congrats, guys! And for those of you who've lost loved ones lately, my condolences. I enjoyed walking around the Street Rod Nationals today with my father, and don't know what I'll do someday when that's not an option. I celebrate all my luck and good fortune tonight by opening a store selected McKenna BIB, and I have to say, someone did a great job selecting it! Its my first at-home bottle of it, and was a graduation gift from a friend. Sweet HH goodness, and proofed just right. It's like a HH6BIB with the edges more rounded off and a bit sweeter.

just noticed, this bottle is aged just over 11 years.

Cheers!

Went to the local bar and had a pour of Baker's followed by two pours of a FR private select (10yr 107 proof OESQ) that absolutely blew my mind. They're selling the FR by the bottle for $60. I don't have much experience with FR private selections - is this on the high side?

$55 is usually what they go for but they have been creeping up in price. On the other hand, $60 isn't bad for mind blowing whiskey.

And a belated congratulations to the Fox!

First pours of GBS FR OESO. 11 yr. 5 mos.: 57.0%.

Second pour is four finger Saturday night pour over 2 cubes of ice. Sweet entry with notes of stewed fruit, hint of cinammon, medium finish, with a lasting note of white pepper on front of tongue. This is uber-drinkable. Another great pick by GBS. :drink::drink:

Four Roses night! Having a nice pour of Crown FR OBSQ. 10 yr. 3 mos., 121.2 proof. Excellent and drinkable neat, followed up with a nice pour with a couple of cubes. Catching the floral and spice that OBSQ is known for. This is an excellent bottle!

Very nice! Mine was a touch over 11 years old. I recently had some OBSK that was 9yr 6 month from the gift shop that was very good. Age doesn't seem to be the big factor with FR. Younger ones can be great, not just the old ones. But the 17yr OBSV...... that's another story!

These. ...

Ok, ok, I stepped it up a notch. Why drink anything else? !

As a side note, I'm continually amazed at the attention the majority of NDP's and craft distilleries get...there is really no need to look beyond the majors (exceptions to SA and HW) IMHO

My favorite store didn't have what I wanted so went with Stagg Jr Barrel Proof. Any thoughts on this one?

Some like it, some hate it. It's a rough around the edges, punch you in the face with flavor kind of bourbon. I enjoy it quite a bit.

Decided to head for Stagg, so reached back for the trusty '04.

ORVW 10/107 '13. If they can duplicate this in the fall, I will be content with one of these and nothing else from the VW line. Everything I love in a wheated bourbon with enough proof and age to keep it interesting. And at a price that doesn't curl your nose hairs.

Kept it low key for my birthday with some EWBiB, and now I'm ending the night with a glass of 03 EWSB.

Long week of playing golf and traveling across NE. The German Shepherd puppy flipped his stuff when I got home. Wife was happy too. Found out we're hosting 14 people tomorrow, was going to detox, but instead I'm Big Green Egging . . . GBS OBSK comes to the rescue. 1 hour into a 16 hour butt.

SAOS 7 and CEHT SmB tonight after what turned out to be a "beer fest" kind of day here.

P. S. Really glad to see the "Q" yeast getting some real love here lately. :yum:

dropped in on a friend who's family is out of town for the weekend. We went down to what turned out to be a hipster bar. He had a beer, my wife had a wine, and I had KC (best thing on the bar). Then, I proceeded to get my ass handed to me in a game of ping-pong....I couldnt blame the KC, I just suck at it.
