after my thought the other day that the McKenna BIB store selection tasted a LOT like current WT101, tonight Im doing side by sides of both, and find that I was pretty spot on. The McK may be a tad sweeter on the entry, which I like....but the WT is a bit punchier in the proof, which I like. Cant go wrong with either one, but with one at $19 and the other at $30, I think Id lean toward the WT for purchases

As always started earlier my night with ECBP. Then just pop open a PHC POH and it's yummy as is, neat.

A few solid pours of BT tonight. I bought the bottle from the local store, and the owner talked a bit about how he's having trouble getting certain products from BT distillery, especially Weller products and Sazerac Rye.

I recently contacted a Binny's outlet up north and asked about whether they could get some certain products. Here's the reply:

  • Ancient Ancient Age (10 year old) - Currently not available from our Supplier
  • Elmer T. Lee - Currently Unavailable
  • Ezra B Single Barrel - Currently In Stock for $29.99
  • Heaven Hill Bottled in Bond - Discontinued, No Longer Available
  • Old Forester Signature -750mL size is currently out of stock at our supplier, although the 1.75L is available for us to order for you and is $42.99/btl.
  • Weller 12 year old -Currently out of stock from out supplier with no eta on when it might return.

That email is depressing as @#$%, folks.

I simply asked about "Heaven Hill Bottled in Bond." Since I've never had it, I don't know which ones are possible, which saddens me. Only having Texas fifths of OFSig is slightly baffling.

A bulbous pour of GBS OBSK. It's got that chocolate orange thing going on that I loved so much about the 2013 single LE but with a better viscosity. Nice pick fellas :)

Started out with some Pappy 15 last night - an excellent pour, but I still don't think the hype is justified (although I would certainly pick up another if I could find it at retail). Then decided to work on finishing a Bulleit/Makers Mark blend I had vatted a while ago just for chuckles. Not bad, not great, improved when I added a bit of EWSB for a truly mongrel blend. Just in an experimental mood, I guess.

Says the guys that talked us into two barrels no less. ;)

A glass of ETL last night, I was lucky enough to run into a case total across three states a month or so ago. Paired this with a Partagas PSS4

Tonight it's BT a good everyday bourbon at east for me. Pairing tonight with a Vegas Robaina Classico.

Enjoying some 4roses

All that ale and the man is drinking bourbon!

Still on the kick of opening some shelf space so I spent some time this week, including tonight, emptying a bottle of FRSB (standard version). Always a nice pour.

Had some WT12 CGF at the in-laws. Excellent stuff. Although when I opened the bottle the cork broke apart and I had to spend 15 minutes straining it and cleaning the bottle before getting it all back together and having a pour.

A Jackie's FW&S selected McKenna BIB. Big whiskey, and drinks more like Turkey than HH. Earlier in the day, enjoyed its muscle in an Old Fashioned. Really nice pick, but not for the faint of heart.

Opened my first ever bottle of ETL. At first I thought it was thin because I've been drinking lots of 105+ proof stuff lately, but after a few sips the velvety sweetness won me over. Good stuff to be sure

I have come to your conclusion many times, JW. By spending so much time with the 100+ proofers that are available, the sub-100's can get lost...unfairly IMO. And, I am as guilty of this as anyone. Honestly speaking, there should be no reason that some <100 proof bourbons should be dismissed as easily as they sometimes are.

Thank you! I'm not the only one who thinks that about his store select McKenna BIB! Fortunately, I love me some WT. I was just saying this last night with a pour of each to confirm my idea.

tonight, though, I had some HH6 90 proof green label. I forgot i had some left in a 200ml bottle I had used for a flask, and enjoyed a fatty of it.

Had a generous pour from a dusty 'handle' of Old Forester 86.

Bigtime butterscotch and caramel! Nice stuff. I wish a lot more of it.

An outstanding VOB Manhattan followed by a little more VOB. But there being one pour left in a 2013 4RLE small batch, just popped into my stream of consciousness and now sitting in the glass .
