Got the water amount just right in some ECBP batch 3 and boy oh boy is this the best it's ever tasted for me. Outstanding pour.

All that ale and the man is drinking bourbon!

Still on the kick of opening some shelf space so I spent some time this week, including tonight, emptying a bottle of FRSB (standard version). Always a nice pour.

Hehe fact. Actually american BA stouts got me into bourbon! Great stuff!

Continuing my recent sub-100-proof kick with a hefty pour of ER10. This was the first bourbon that blew my socks off and even though my palate has changed this one never disappoints

Started with some Larceny at lunch, and continuing on the wheater trail with some OWA. Looking forward to some SB Blend after this!

Had some ECBP #3 and WLW 2010. I preferred the WLW, but it was surprisingly close. Great nose on the WLW.

ND OGD BIB. Don't mind the new stuff as a cheap mixer, but as has been said ad nauseum here......the ND version had it going on.

A few weeks ago, squire noted that Baker's had always been considered to be Beam's premium offering which prompted a number of us to go out and procure some bottles. Upon first tasting it then, I did like it but found the barrel char notes to be a little too forward for me to place it in the "ahhhh, that's super good" category. Revisiting it today I find that the char, while still present, is not as forward and is now part of a more balanced experience. I'm seeing the appeal.

Brutal day of missing flights because of freak weather events and getting trapped in airports. Now im in an airport hotel in dallas sipping the small bottle of oc10 I snuck onto the plane (thank god for small miracles.)

I wasnt surprised but I was disappointed to not see weller at the bar downstairs. Thought it grew on trees here

Opened my first ever bottle of ETL. At first I thought it was thin because I've been drinking lots of 105+ proof stuff lately, but after a few sips the velvety sweetness won me over. Good stuff to be sure

Which brings up some interesting historical side notes of Bourbon history. Just a few years after Prohibition, whisky making was put on hold while production shifted over to industrial alcohol for the war effort. Recovery finally came in the early 1950s as distillers struggled to meet demand as well as compete for a share of the market. Then, as now, new brands were creating and old ones revived with an eye toward public tastes and perceptions.

Standards had long been established (the good stuff was eight years old and Bottled in Bond at 100 proof) but consumer tastes had shifted away from the heavy Pre-Prohibition flavors to something modern that was amenable to ice, cocktails and mixers. So the Bourbons we enjoy today were in fact designed to be mixed and enjoyed over ice.

A generous pour of Rare Breed over just enough crushed ice to cover the bottom of the glass. I like for the ice to be so thin that it completely melts away before I take my first sip.

Sunday night I opened a bottle of Jefferson's Collaboration..I liked this one better the Wild Turkey Forgiven.. Then I opened a bottle Of George Dickel Barrel Select. I had never tried this one.. Had 12yr GD in the past.. I enjoyed this one.. A little sweetness to it.. Will buy another if I can get it on sale.. Might keep my eye out for a Private Hand Selected Barrel 9 years old.. Cheers
