Howdy!

post-9229-14489821020688_thumb.jpg

I'm not quite certain what to make of this. But it is tasty.

Because of arcane laws here in Quebec the statement of proof has to be redacted. And in this case they have also crossed out the number for the abv. But thankfully there is a plain white Avery label on the back (in French) that states "Petit Lot" (small batch) "Fût Unique" (single barrel) and 59.5% abv, which would make it 119 proof. last I saw Knob Creek Single Barrel was 60% abv.

I would imagine that Suntory Beam think we're yokels up here.

Has anyone got any idea, suggestion or theory what the heck is up with the label, and what exactly might be in the bottle?

Maybe the rules up there are different and what passes for 60% in the USA ain't the same. Or perhaps that barrel ended up a bit low in proof and was directed to a low-proof location for concealment.

Quebec is definitely a place where they would be able to hide their mistakes. But I'm still trying to figure out how it can be both single barrel and small batch at the same time...

I wonder if it was a store select that ended up being bottled at 119 proof rather than the normal 120 proof?

If you have bottle markings, I would send Beam an e-mail and ask them.

I guess small batch single barrel is an attempt to reach a broader audience. Can't decide which? We offer both in the same bottle.

Upon some reflection, I'm surprised that it wasn't bottled in bond as well!

Don't know the answer, but I'm betting that's some good whiskey.

KC1B runs neck and neck with OGD 114 as my fav Beam product.

Zeke, let us know what the bottle's like and if any different than OTS KC1B.

off the shelf?

man, I hate that new label. the old printed-on label looked classy, this looks so cheap. first impressions on the shelf mean a lot to make first time purchasers

Single barrels chosen from small batches must be more better, right?

I would think; "More Betterester", NO?

The standard KC (100 proof) has always (IIRC) been labeled "Small Batch". I suspect this is simply an attempt to have some brand continuity

This.

Besides, I'm willing to let it slide, seeing as it's some legit juice for a reasonable price.

Small batch is always better and I know because I read that on the internet.

I hope you can get it for a reasonable price in Jackson. Up here in Quebec they are charging $60 (or $55.85 US).

Howdy,

My first bottle of KCSB was so good, I simply had to get another. Forgive the clichés, but this is a bold Bourbon, with Orange peel and fruit cake on "the nose". It's finish is warm and satisfying. Can't wait for Fall!

I'm surprised this one doesn't get more press. I remember someone on here describing it as close to barrel proof and 9 years, and cheap, as it is $27 in my area.
