Merrymash Monk
· Hidden Hidden I tried this too. It makes all the difference. I've always felt that table sugar ruins an Old Fashion. Its just way too sweet. Real maple syrup is just right and combines well with bourbon. Link to comment
Merrymash Monk
I will sometimes substitute in a small amount of maple syrup instead of a sugar cube when making an Old Fashioned.Yes! As long as its real maple syrup, this is my favorite mixed drink of late- not that I do a lot of mixing. Table sugar or cubes always seemed to make this drink cloyingly sweet to me, even in a small amount. Maple syrup is just right, and it compliments the bourbon nicely. camduncan
Have used maple syrup instead of sugar for a Mint Julep - worked a treat, and gave the drink a whole new dimension. Not something I'd do every day, but a fun and tasty alternative that worked well with the Makers I used for the whiskey.
Westernboys
I'm not a big fan of flavored bourbon but the maple flavored in o.k. in hot chocolate in the winter. Of course I could put a splash of maple syrup in with my favorite bourbon.

TunnelTiger
Worse than Devils Cut is scary but there is no way it can be worse than WR Classic Malt. Just no way
