Kalessin
OGD114 not at all common on Massachusetts stores -- usually you only see it in some of the bigger/older stores, and it's gone from 19.99 to about 22.99 recently. The BiB is also hard to find, though often available in liters and sometimes in handles when it shows up. The 80-proof is everywhere in 750s and handles. Quintilian
Considering what it is that's a good price.I also might have to pick up the OGDBiB to draw comparisons. This is all done in the service of empiricism.
Quantum
You should get both. I didn't really appreciate the 114 until I tried it along side the BiB.
AEM
I've had no luck finding OGD 114 or 100 in Austin. Twin doesn't even list it. None of the Specs near me have it.
ethangsmith
OGD of any proof is a favorite of mine. I mix the 100 with Old Overholt occasionally to make some poor man's Michter's. Dang tasty stuff at any proof.

ethangsmith
I mix it about 50/50 and it works well. It's certainly not a dead-ringer for Michter's, but it gets that "high rye" flavor. Wild Turkey 101 bourbon and Old Overholt at 50/50 more closely resembles Michter's and it's quite tasty too.
mbroo5880i
I have never had Michter's Rye but I think OGD114/Ritt BIB is a solid mix.
KyleCBreese
The current OGD offerings are 80, 100, and 114 proof right? I have seen the 86 proof a few times lately and don't know anything about it. When did the 86 offering stop?
393foureyedfox
last year the 86 stopped
squire
Gone but not forgotten, they're still on the shelves here.
KyleCBreese
The bottles I saw had an 02 and an 06 embossed on the bottom, so they're a little older than I thought.
BootsOnTheGround
Just a little handy trick if you don't already know; 80686 is Beam. That's the first five on the barcode.
393foureyedfox
i cant help but wonder..........if Beam kept the OGD recipe and yeast when they took over, how could they have screwed it up this badly? the degree of difference cant be purely due to age
MauiSon
Well, the first thing that comes to mind is the wood.Think about how stupid the average person is.....then realize there's a >50% chance you're more stupid than that [because you're thinking about the average person]. 393foureyedfox
care to elaborate on that one?
GaryT
I think if you look at how different LDI/MGP stuff tastes based on where it is aged, that explains part of it. While the yeast and recipe are the same, Beam is aging them in their rickhouses compared to wherever ND aged the barrels. Not sure what proof they were barreled at or came of the still at between the two. Plus the stills are different. So many variables, probably impossible to identify them all and their impacts (although my hats off to BT for their work in this area; just refuse to pay-to-play in that experiment )
beerfactory
Nothing's as good as it used to be including me. As for OGD either the BIB or 114 will serve with a nod toward the 114. Both are widely available wherever Beam products are sold.Rarely have I ever agreed as strongly with a forum post as I do this one. I would only add "slight" in front of nod and every word would match my thoughts perfectly.
fantome
The last two bottles of OGD BiB were lackluster so I haven't bought a bottle in two years. Maybe I should try it again soon.
Dave43
I really hope OGD 114 doesn't get discontinued...it seems like everything under $20 and good has been lately.
Dave43
Does anyone know if the date that OGD is made is stamped somewhere on the bottle. I thought I read this somewhere.
suntour
The bottom of 114 bottles have two digits on them which I believe is the year, probably the year the glass was made but gives you a pretty good idea.

393foureyedfox
Help me out with this logic. How does the year of the bottle tell you when an NAS bourbon was made?it wont give you and idea of when it was distilled, unless its age stated, but it will give you a ballpark of when it was bottled.
