Yesterday I picked up a couple of bottles of 4R OESO Barrel Strength at Tippins.

I didn't notice then but I see it was a joint selection with the Greater Detroit American Whiskey Society.

I have never heard of this group, I did a search and nothing came up.

So I ask, y'all out there? Let us know who you are, I for one am interested.

Good Day Oscar-

First off, how is that Four Roses from Tippin's? Was thinking about going to get a bottle.

Second the Greater Detroit American Whisky Society is a Facebook group, I think you can search on Facebook and find it.

Best regards, Tony

Depending upon what they stand for, and how they're organized I'd be interested in membership.

I'm certainly interested in learning more about 'em. Anything known among the members here would be appreciated.

I'm a member of the Facebook group. Knowledgable bunch of people, who love their whiskey. I'll see if I can send out some invites to you guys, or refer the founding member to you. If you guys are on Facebook, friend me and then I'll see about adding you to the group.

Thanx, Drew. I'm not 'on FaceBook', if that's a requirement. No interest in FB.

Just to be clear, The Greater Detroit American Whiskey Society is, and was started as a Facebook group.

I got a bottle of each barrel last weekend and found out about the group there.

They're getting another barrel in August and Jim is coming in to sign bottles.

Hopefully they would expand, but it certainly is their right. I know that while the majority of GBS members are on this forum, not all are (and we have a Facebook group as well, although it is only a small sub-set of the larger group). I'm just glad to see that in a world where the internet makes us less personable, there are groups like this (and it sounds like that one as well!) that bring people together. Only thing that improves great whiskey is great company :)

Of course it's good, it's 4R Barrel Strength OESO.

But not the best private selection I've had.

At 110.2prf it seems a bit hot, I did a side by side with a Binny's OESO and if Binny's is an A then the Tippins is a B minus.

But a B minus is AAA compared to the usual young watered down bourbons from other distilleries.

I think some air will open it up.

I had one sit for about 20 minutes and it calmed down.

I'm on the FB group too as are ACDetroit and Bonne Amie. I went to one of their evens at The Oakland awhile back. It was fun.

I think a lot of them are active on BX.

Country, GBS may not be the best analogy. Joe's looking for any means to share goat time beyond Troyce.

I am part of the FB group as well. Kind of started as a group that just posted about limited releases locally and people looking for bottles. It started to evolve slightly only recently to be a more social group. As Josh mentioned, they did the one tasting at the Oakland earlier this year and are planning another event some where on the east side later in August I believe.

As far as the bottle label, originally we were going to buy the barrel strictly for the group but since there was not enough interest to buy out a complete barrel, one of the group founders approached Tippins to split the barrel with us. The tasting panel ended up having two people from the group and two people from the store on it, thus the mention on the label. Not sure if this will be a norm for future barrel picks or just these few Four Roses barrels of late.
