Dave43
Haven't seen anything in Minneapolis in 6 months. 6 yr, 8 yr, bib.....nada. Are others having a hard time finding HH? Maybe Minnesota got blacklisted.

squire
It seems to me they're emphasizing the Evan Williams brand generally and won't stop until they knock Beam out of the number one Bourbon spot.

OscarV
No shortage at Heaven Hill.As a matter of fact they have the largest inventory of "aged whiskey" in Kentucky.Beam has more barrels on the racks but HH has more over 8 year olds on the racks.Or is it ricks? mbroo5880i
I don't think there is a significant shortage. They seem to be expanding brands. There seem to be a lot of EWSB and HKM barrel selects recently. I would think the first sign of a shortage would be to cut back on their barrel selection program. squire
You've told us that you have some top secret info concerning sales information about HH brands. If I had top secret sales information (not saying I do) and told you then it would no longer be a secret.

PaulO
No HH shortage that I have noticed. HH 6 year old BIB, EW BIB, and HMcK BIB even in stores that never had them before. No Larceny though, but that's because they don't send any to Indiana. I haven't seen the new Bernhiem 7 year old yet. I wonder if that is only because the regular version seems to have very little demand here.
TunnelTiger
Haven't seen the new 7 yr Berheim either but I don't expect to with so many bottles of the regular on the shelf here as well.
jmj_203
Yeah there is a HH shortage....here in Pennsylvania! Just kidding, but seriously there is no hh bourbon here, just bernheim wheat, which I have heard a few people are seeing the new age-stated bernheim on a few pa store shelves so that surprised me in a good way. No larceny, 6yr BiB, or EWBiB. Only EC12, EWSB and EWBlack. I regularly email customer info on the HH website letting them know I would die to see more here in Pa, esp Larceny and EWBiB and 6yr BiB, but no luck yet. I have a stockpile at least. Question, I love Old Fitz 1849, have over a case I buy from out of state distributors since I heard its discontinued. It is or was HH juice correct? It sure tastes like their nectar of the gods, and I love it like I love me some HH juice. Edited June 28, 2014 by jmj_203
squire
Yes, your 1849 was made by Heaven Hill.

They are allowing selections of bernheim wheat whiskey but that is it for now.I had heard that they were cutting back on EC12 barrel selects but had not heard about EWSB or HKM. I had also heard that in conjunction with the EC12 cut back more HKM might become available. While they both have the same HH profile, they are a little different. I always attributed this to age and warehouse location, so I wasn't sure if some distillate was being diverted to HKM (of course availability of that product wouldn't be for a long time) or if they were finding more barrels matching the HKM profile or if the big difference is just age and which bottle they put it in (thus, they have and will have in the near term more 10 year old bourbon than 12 year old).It seems like the availability of HKM has expanded. However, maybe that is more of a regional or distribution thing. I don't know the economics or strategies behind product roll outs and expansions. Other than possible wider availability, is there an advantage or disadvantage to a producer offering private barrel selections? For example, is it better to provide a large or high volume retailer who will move product more quickly with a private barrel selection or is it better to send standard bottlings to smaller stores, some of which may not move the product as quickly? I realize that distributors also impact distribution.
garbanzobean
There's definitely no shortage of Heaven Hill products in Maryland. For the most part, their bottom, middle, and top shelf stuff is widely available. We do have periodic "rolling brown outs" of Henry McKenna as people have started to realize what a great bourbon it is, but otherwise, most stuff is pretty easy to find. It isn't in stores here but it is listed on the SLO list (special order ship to your local store for pickup) at 35.99 or 35.49, can't remember which, with a minimum order of 3 bottles. I believe they just purchase from out of state distributors when you want something not carried, so there probably are technically no bottles of Mckenna in the state stores. I'm going to order 3 next payday, can't imagine I won't love it being HH, ten yrs old and BiB.
suntour
I really like it but find it hit or miss. Store select bottles are generally awesome. Also in a blind sbs I actually preferred gold label bib...
cowdery
If you start to see shelf-outs of Evan Williams black label, then there's a shortage. If not, then there isn't. Tightness in the supply of HH-branded products or minor products such as Old Fitz 1849 mean nothing.I believe all of the planned expansion at the Bernheim Distillery is finished and they probably don't have room for more. Their fermenters, but the way, are the largest in the industry, 120,000 gallons each.
jmj_203
I trust your knowledge chuck no worries. I just stock 1849 because its the only sub $20 hh bottle left here in my state that I reach for every night with the assurance my nightcap is a known cheap delicious sip. And I reach for that over 100 dollar bottles (just cause I'm a cheapskate who saves those for nights when my 2 true bourbon guys are visiting). I think we're all assured the shortage is overreacted. HH fermenters holding 120000 gallons for distillation shows how much theyre barreling...now thats assurance in a decade when my son is ready to learn bourbon with his dad that we will have much to sample. Then he can pay for my depends in a few more decades for teaching him the path of enlightenment. Edited June 29, 2014 by jmj_203
