Just a quick poll to see which of the 10 FR single barrel recipes are the most favorited here.

Keep in mind "favorite" means many things to many people and everyone's taste preference is different and changes.

No multiple choice, you may only choose one.

Thanks for playing.

So, I don't see "the one I have open in front of me" as an option!

As you say it is tough to define favorite. I am therefore inclined to go with "most consistently good". Some of the less common recipes can have good bottles and not so good bottles depending on many other factors than just recipe but when they are good they can be truly great. I have an OESF I think is that way for example but wouldn't expect every OESF to necessarily be a great bottle.

I realize it's a single barrel product which adds another factor in.

So for example, Binny's out of Chicago buys all 10 of them and they're all $55.

If you only have $55 to spend, which one do you buy?

The best one!

Which may be wholly dependent on my mood at the time and what the last few recipes I had tried where like. And of course the latest comments about them on SB!

I have participated in 3 completely blind tastings of all 10 recipes (each tasting consisted of some different selections than the previous tasting but not all of them were different....some were repeats). I know it is single barrel so there is bound to be some variation but OBSO has been on top for me all 3 times. OBSK has been 2nd twice.

I love every recipe I've had. Every single private selection I've had by them has been an amazing bourbon in its own right. Regardless, I thank the bourbon gods that I can come back to the plain ol 100 proof OBSV single barrel anytime I want to.

So far... OBSK. I haven't had all of them yet but the richness and spice of that recipe (particularly in 2013 SiBLE) is just awesome.

6 months ago, I'd probably have gone with OBSK, but I've really become a big fan of the E recipes lately, so i went with OESQ (although I liked OESF quiet a bit as well). A bit fo a departure from my normal higher rye preferences, but that's the kick I'm on at the moment.

Based on this criteria alone and not being able to look at the notes, the proofs or the ages, only choosing on recipe alone I would grab an OBSK.

Perfect! Exactly the point of the poll.

Just me: but I'd say that in the next 5-7 years the FR brand will outgrow and out-sell every other on the market because of this very aspect of it's business and production model. I also think they will be acquired and said model will be "chased" or copied by the other brands as they feel left behind. Ask your old man or Grandfather about FR and he'll probably ask you why you'd want to drink it. There's still room on the bus as the bubble grows.

Per a conversation with Jim that I participated in, the barrel selection program has a shelf life of perhaps 18 more months. This has been discussed elsewhere in the forum so I won't go into deets here again.

My fave recipe is OBSV.

I haven't tried all 10 yet, but of the ones I own which I've been able to revisit more than twice - OBSO is my fav. When our OESO barrel pick comes in though, there will be a shootout at the FRSB corral :)

Darn it Bruce. You stole my line. :Clever:

I've only had two or three of the ten recipes, so I will excuse myself from voting in the poll. That being said, I've had a couple OESO's that I thought were pretty decent. I also have to say that the PS OBSV I'm sipping on right now is pretty freakin' awesome. :yum:

Went OESF for this one, the variable aspect of the "F"s and the fact that I have loved both F recipes led me to the choice. I would expect a nice barrel to barrel variation but a common DNA that I know I like.

That said any of 5 other recipes could have taken the top spot.

Not surprised to see OBSK at the top of the pack. I think it's a crowd pleaser. It seems like it's almost a challenge to find a bad barrel of OBSK. I chose OESO, but really it depends on the selection. I've found any recipe could be my favorite when it's in my glass, including OBSF.

Too lazy to hunt on my phone and I don't want to thread crap on this one so:

Per Jim at the GBS barrel pick in April...

European recession helped extend domestic stocks at FR. Without that, they would be in same supply bind as many others.

At the current burn rate, there was about 18 months of barrel pick stocks remaining.

If I had to pick one to buy a barrel of, it would be OBSO.

I couldn't agree more.

Boots... I voted OBSV because I believe it is the most consistent of the recipes. However, if I wanted to try a recipe different than the standard single barrel, then my choice would be OBSK or OESK.

The comments suggesting ~18 months left of private selections make me want to put all my bourbon money for the next year and a half toward 4R.

I don't remember who told me but it was someone in person, reputable at that, who told me that Four Roses is way over subscribed on their single barrel program. I am not certain the number of barrels they project to sell each month but they are somewhere significantly higher than that number.

For example, I know one large retailer in Indy recently introduced 10 new barrel selections (each recipe) available at retail. Another large retailer in the same market indicated they are selecting 10 new barrel selections (each recipe) in the near future that will be available sometime this year.
