As much as I'd like to take any reputable company's word for it, why wouldn't FR limit the barrel buys if they expect to be out due to over selling of them? These store chains are buying 10 at a time? Not sure how this adds up.

Plus, doesn't the distillery stop production during the summer due to the heat?

Perfect! Exactly the point of the poll.

Just me: but I'd say that in the next 5-7 years the FR brand will outgrow and out-sell every other on the market because of this very aspect of it's business and production model. I also think they will be acquired and said model will be "chased" or copied by the other brands as they feel left behind. Ask your old man or Grandfather about FR and he'll probably ask you why you'd want to drink it. There's still room on the bus as the bubble grows.

Why don't you just pick The ones most used in the LE's and flip Those? Just seems easier than this poll. Ill even help out. OBSV is the ticket.

The comments suggesting ~18 months left of private selections make me want to put all my bourbon money for the next year and a half toward 4R.

The last two posts are why I hesitated to answer the question in this thread.

Please move the discussion to a new thread.

I have loved all five the single-barrel recipes I've bought (and pretty much everything else from Four Roses). They've got my number -- I buy what I can, but I'll never have enough...

The standard SiB on the shelves, how do you know what recipe they are?

I don't remember who told me but it was someone in person, reputable at that, who told me that Four Roses is way over subscribed on their single barrel program. I am not certain the number of barrels they project to sell each month but they are somewhere significantly higher than that number.

For example, I know one large retailer in Indy recently introduced 10 new barrel selections (each recipe) available at retail. Another large retailer in the same market indicated they are selecting 10 new barrel selections (each recipe) in the near future that will be available sometime this year.

I believe the numbers were 400+ barrels in 2013. As of early April they were over that number for 2014 and in May alone they had 200 barrels selected.

I heard this exact information. I believe the barrel program had 200 sold in 2012, 400 in 2013, and 400+ as of April 2014. Growing exponentially it would seem.

I think it's intersting that the OBSQ is in last with only 1 vote...Rutledge told me he thought the 10ish year offerings of that were probably the best of the private bottlings they were putting out as of early June. I'm partial to the E recipes, but it's funny that one, in particular, is trailing.

The one I have and the only of that recipe I have tried requires vatting with another PS in order for me to drink it. On its own I don't like it at all, is all bitter, sour, woody ( it IS 13 yrs old). Its the only 4R I haven't liked but in its vatted state with an OESV it is quite enjoyable. Based on JRs description of what bourbon tastes like when the barrel goes south, this one tastes exactly like that.

That would make sense. That's older than the ones he was talking about to me, so I would think they have a different quality. I have both Q recipes, so I will have to try them side by side soon.

Well JR agrees with you, and that's not trivial.

Well I LOVE my "F" recipes and they ain't exactly burnin up the charts, 2 votes each so far.

Maybe the OBSQ "hatred" stems from the 2011 SBLE getting such a bad rap.

The simple fact is that I can't get anyone to agree with me! :frown:

I love the OBSQ and find it delightful in every way. The one I currently have open is 9 yrs, 7 months and 59.3%.

Seriously, it is my favorite and I voted accordingly. I've also introduced this recipe to several friends as well and they all agree that it is waaaay too drinkable!

If you send me a bottle, I would be happy to agree with you.

I find it interesting that OESO rates so high. I have only tried OESO once, recently, and as part of a larger multi-FR recipe tasting event. I found the taste bland with a very strong alcohol profile. I am not sure if it was a relative thing as I was comparing it to other recipes. It was my first pour so I don't believe it was influenced by having sampled other pours. I have tried all 10 recipes now and the two "O" recipes are my least favorite.
