I've still got a fair amount of all ( mostly from the good old days) except the rye, but it gets harder for me to enjoy 'em knowing what the dumb asses in the Atlanta area are gladly willing to pay for them.

I honestly anymore only seek out the 10yr and the rye I can't tell you the last time I cracked a Pappy, maybe 2 years ago best guess. Over hyped and over played.

The ORVW10/107 and the 15yr are the only bottles I try to seek out. The rest don't do anything for me.

I currently have one 15yr open from 2012 and visit it every couple of weeks. Given it's rarity, I don't want to see it go too fast, but I've got a few left in the bunker and plenty of other options at the ready to be sad once an open bottle is gone.

With a VWFRR, PVW15 & 20 opened, I like to visit one or the other every several weeks or so. VW's are special but with several other whiskies I have open of high drinkability quality, they are not necessarily over the top pours for me.

  • 11 months later...

I have bottles of all Pappy's, Lot B, vWFR Rye and and ORvW 10 open. Visit them a few times a month. Had Pappy 23 last night; noticed the bottle is about 80% gone, but there's at least one, maybe two, more bunkered.

I find myself thinking this way too often too :(

I typically have the 10 year and Lot B open and I'll crack them on Sunday nights or if friends are over. Honestly though I enjoy a lot of other pours just as much if not more though.

Frankly, I rarely think of any of the (few) bottles of Pappy, or Lot B I have in the bunker.

I like so many other Bourbons more (and, they all cost a great deal less) so, I generally pour one of those. I think the last time I poured any of the Pappy Family was during the Holidays last December/January.

I keep both 10 yo, a lot b, the 15, and a 20 yo open at all times. I visit a bottle every two to three weeks. I too stocked up before the craziness set in motion. They were at one time my regular daily pour when they sat on the shelves and were readily available. I haven't Purchased a bottle since a 2011 PVW 20 yo. I got tired of the game. It is getting harder to open a fresh bottle when I see what they are going for today. I have enjoyed them all, might be time to let someone else grab their holy grail. Tim

Since I'm going to be a grand pappy later this year, I've been thinking about it more and more. I'll give my daughter and SIL a choice of what they would like to celebrate with.

A very fitting way to celebrate, and a very nice way to show you care for the family...whether the choice is PVWFR or some other pour that comes into favor for the toast.

Please accept my congratulations in advance of the blessed event. :toast:

Rich, thanks for the kind words. My wife and I are very excited about this. My SIL likes rye and my daughter rum, I also have a Rittenhouse 23 (thanks Joe) that hasn't been opened so I'm interested what their selection will be.

I visited my Pappy 23 the other day on my b-day then sealed him back up, despite the hype, it was quite enjoyable. Then I hit the 15 as well.....Why not? Then after it was over I had an idea that I'm going to start a new tradition on my next b-day, going to have pours that add up to my age, just turned 53, so I could have hit the 23, 20 and a 10.(Doesn't have to be Pappy)

Last year I had a very serious health scare that would likely have been life threatening. It turned out to be a misdiagnosis which was a major relief. That night I brought one of my four remaining bottles of Pappy 15 over to a friend's house which I had been sitting on for quite some time. My feeling was that there is no time like today, as fine whiskey does you no good sitting in the bunker when your number is up. My friends and I each had two healthy pours before re-corking the bottle which I subsequently gave to that friend after he relocated out-of-state. He is 20 years my junior and a budding whiskey enthusiast due to my negative influence and really appreciated inheriting the bottle, despite being open and only two thirds full. Drink it, share it with loved ones or give it away if it brings a smile to someone's face, that's what I say!

My Pappy bottles hardly even register on my radar these days. Three are open (Pappy 23, Lot B & Rye) and two aren't (Pappy 15, signed Rye).

The open bottle of SB Pappy 23 did get some brief attention a few months back..... only to find the cork had shrunk causing oxidization. What's left isn't overly drinkable, even mixed, so it's basically a prop on my bar now :(

I'd revisit the Lot B, but much prefer a pour of the SB Weller 12 I have open. The open Rye was purchased in '04 in the UK, and hasn't been poured in years. They might be worth a re-visit in 18 months time for my Dad's 80th.

Guess now is as a good a time as any to confess. I have never visited my Pappy.

I bought a bottle of Pappy 20 year old....maybe 1998. Special treat I picked up with a bonus. I had ORVW 107 proof in both the 10 and 15 year expressions as well; I didn't care at all for the 15, but would buy the 10 every now and again. Last time I bought 10/107 was maybe four years ago. It was still in the chunky bottle, and the price had crept up to the $40 mark. Heh.

(I also had Lot B once, also in the late 90s. Wasn't impressed.)

Last visited Pappy 15 yesterday. I have that one, ORVW 10/107, Lot B and Pappy 20 all open. Back-ups for all of them (need to finish off the ORVW soon, as the fill level is very low) except the Lot B. I've tried the 13 year rye (delicious) and have never had the 23 year. Actually prefer the 10 to the 12, and the 15 to the 20.

I think it's all very good bourbon. It's also hardly life-changing. Bought it all at or just slightly above MSRP. Anyone who buys it at these astronomical secondary market prices is foolish - as far as I'm concerned - but I guess people can spend their money how they wish (although I really don't like what the trophy hunting has done to the hobby). I'll look for more this fall. If I don't find it at what I deem to be a reasonable price, I won't lose sleep over it.

I tend to give it to others more than I touch it. I tend to get more enjoyment out of watching people tell me that while good, it isn't life changing.
