Yep, same story here. Here is the progression: "I like bourbon, but whatever, I like beer too" --> "I am obsessed with bourbon, have discovered sd.bomb and am buying all sorts of bourbon" --> "I have more bourbon than I can drink in the foreseeable future (assuming I continue to have a job), but am strangely unable to stop buying more on an ongoing basis"

Nevertheless, I am pretty pleased with the whole thing ...

anyone on here for more than a year has gone through all these stages.....

And some of us newbies were pleased to find this site which, thank you all, assured us that keeping mixed cases of bourbon and other straight whiskey in the basement and storing bottles in the car trunk until basement space opened is NOT aberrant behavior.

i always thought it funny that you keep a trunk full of bourbon. then, just now, i remembered that I have 6 bottles of HH6BIB in my trunk for a week or two now, since I went out and gathered all of them I could find in South-central Louisville. I gotta bring those in....

Yes, I am also pretty pleased with the whole thing as I devise new ways to stash my purchases so the wife doesn't get suspicious.

Similar to fox, the first time I read this thread I thought it was ridiculous to keep bottles in your trunk...Until I found myself doing the same thing at times.

Here's something I've heard that works. Don't throw out bottles as you empty them. Keep them on your shelf or cabinet, but put them behind bottles that aren't empty. It gives the appearance it's still part of your bunker. When you get a new bottle, just slide an empty out and replace it with your new purchase. Voila! To the untrained eye, it looks like nothing has changed.

The only problem with this is when you purchase multiple bottles. Yeah I know. Buying more than you drink can be a bitch.

Brilliant! Need to try this . . .

Solid advice joe! That's better than my current method of leaving full bottles at the front edge of the shelf to hide empty spaces behind.

You are quite right squire. My wife is sharp. But until I hear it from her directly, I'll keep operating under the illusion.

Now that I've successfully indoctrinated my girlfriend into the world of bourbon, she celebrates the new bottles I acquire. Of course I go through them faster now, but c'est la vie.

Who has room on the shelf for empties? Who has room in the basement for empties? Who has room in the basement?

OAM - Paddy several posts back got me to thinking (that, in itself, is exceptional and dangerous). Although I think the day you drink bourbon is a good old day, I have to admit that I, too, used to take for granted being able to say, "Oh. I'm out of ____." Then, go to the store and by ____ and several other things screaming "Buy me!" Lot B was what changed that for me. When it became rare/pricy/slightly different in taste in the mid-2000s, I decided to try "other" bourbons AND to read up on it. So, yeah, I too miss those old days, but boy have I found a lot of other bourbons that I really like.this stuff.

You guys are seriously underestimating the resourcefulness of wives to find those empties.

Once we buy a new house and I can do a proper bar / man cave in the basement, those bottles in the back will not be empty but filled with ice tea and desperate hopes that she won't notice the opened top...

In other words, I'm probably gonna be in trouble at some point![emoji2]

though I suspect I'm among the younger members here, barely 40, it's amusing to me that as few as 3 years ago is regarded as good ole days. In early 2000's in KY I was able to get my Staggs in the low $30's per bottle. Modest competition. I'll gladly take 2003 over 2013 for a long list of reasons.

The early years of the forum.

While I wasn't here then, going back and reading the first couple of pages of some of the sub groups is a treat.

I think ink the early days of the rye forum is my favorite, with premium being a very close second.
