went to a burlesque show with Mrs Fox last night. I expected JB and WT at the 'bar', but there was only wine, beer, and sodas. Next time, Ill have to remember the flask.

Jim Beam 7-years (The Distillar's Series bottle) today. Then most probably go on with Woodford Reserve.

By the way, this 7-years Beam is indeed great! Though at 90 proof, which is even higher than the JBB, which is aged 8-years and comes at 86 proof, the 7-year Jim Beam feels truly silky in my opinion, caramelly and even sweet, with a warm, lingering finish. No way is it harsh in the throat but smoothly warm enough to help me feel better in this seriously cool day here. It was surprising for me to find that the 7-years aged 90 proof JB felt much smoother than the classical 80 proof JBW.

Have nice Sunday, and an energetic start for the coming week!

Had a bit of a sampler last night with a good friend. Started with the Petite Cellars SAOS 8 yr @ 57% abv. The high rye mashbill of this one is apparent, and is balanced out nicely by a really buttery finish. Very easily drinkable at 114 proof. My friend thought it was a little hot and put a small cube of ice in it . . . that was a mistake. Completely dampened the rye spice and brought out a pretty gross nutra-sweet type flavor. Room temperature water didn't do that at all.

Tried the 2014 Thomas H. Handy several hours later. I'm not sure what the hate for the 2014 is all about. I thought this was good, though it seemed hotter than the 2012 or 2013. Water calmed it down just fine and brought out all the typical THH rye notes. Mouthfeel survived watering just fine. I guess if you have a pathological need to drink whiskey neat regardless of proof, this probably isn't the one for you.

Ended the night with the 2014 Old Forester Birthday Bourbon a couple hours after trying the THH. This seems very different from the 2013. A lot more typical spice in this one, with way less emphasis on vanilla, butterscotch, and caramel. Great mouth feel though. My friend liked it better than the 2013, but I'd say I prefer the 2013 just because it was very different from bourbon I typically drink. Either way it was a very nice bourbon.

Overall, a great night for bourbon drinking.

Started off a bit early today with the Dickel 14 (again). This one has really found the mark. Just a great combination of flavors. Before grilling in the cold weather, have moved on to a nice pour of Blantons. I think later will try the SBS of M46 and Makers Cask Strength while watching Manning versus Brady.

Opened up a bottle of High West A Midwinters Night Dram and will follow it up with CEHT BP!

I had a career-defining week at work, so I celebrated by opening a HHSS 2 with some friends. That night it was thin and hot, but in the subsequent week it's opened up a lot and tastes like a fine dessert drink, with delicious cognac notes and a bit of a woody, syrupy background. I look forward to more developments. I don't know of any bottle I've bought that has changed so much with air. It's alive! It's alive!

Had an ounce of 2013 GTS (better than I remember it), then a small pour of SB blend (worse than I remember), and now a healthy pour of ETLC (as good as I remember.)

Tonight it's a fresh store selection of H McKenna BIB SB from frugal Mcdougal. First pour is a memory and second is awaiting it's beginning.

2014 PHC Wheat, for the third consecutive night. This release is really terrific. Glad I have a couple more in the bunker.

This is my third recent bottle of this bourbon all from different barrels and I have to say this is just excellent bourbon. hH is doing a great job with the consistency on this juice and I applaud their efforts and results. For $23-$27 it's excellent. Not that I want to but I would buy this at a significant premium to that price.

ETLC. I really need to find more of this stuff. Liquid gold. I am just impressed at how unique it is from any other bourbon. :yum:

Mrs Fox and I went to a Masters of Illusion magic show tonight. The best thing on the bar was MM, so I had a double of that, neat. two nights out this week, two strikes on selections. Tonight's offerings were WR, OForester, MM, and KyTavern. MM isnt bad by any means, just not something I usually choose to buy.

Rough selection. I'd have also gone with MM.

Tonight I've gone with OFS, a Stagg Jr./OC 8 mingle, and RR1792 8yr.

waiter: Would you care for a drink sir?

me: Yes, what Bourbons do you have?

waiter: Oh, we have some good ones, Jim Beam, Jack Daniels, Crown Royal and Southern Comfort.

me: Hmm, let me glance at your wine list.

Sounds like the bartender @ Red Lobster.

I have been enjoying Larceny now that I can get it here. Nothing spectacular, but a really nice pour. They have it priced about the same as MM on sale.

Had a generous pour (after an obligatory SBS I won't get into here) of an old dusty Old Forester 86-proof, from a handle, vintage circa 1984. I laid this on the table at the Gazebo last September. Almost half of went in one night. The rest came home.

What a lovely pour! I wish I had several cases of this baby. Sadly I'm down to about a 750 or so.

Hitting a new bottle of Blanton's this evening. I know it's only 93 proof but it drinks much lighter at least to me.
