garbanzobean
How's the new Handy compare to the '12? SB blend to wrap up the day here.I've had both. They're both really good. I think the '12 might be slightly more interesting/complex/whatever, but it was definitely about as hot as the '14 when I first opened the bottle. It calmed down with air. I expect the '14 will do the same.
Phil T
Just cracked a fresh bottle of CnB OBSK. It is 10yr 7mo at 118.6 proof. Certainly a full body spicy bourbon bomb, definitely chewy. Four Roses continues to knock it out of the park. To my pallet, they produce the most unique tasting bourbons. I'm at the point where I'm pretty much a FR whore, with some HH (a close second) thrown in for good measure

I had a Crown BS OESF last night and tonight I opted for a Crown BS OBSQ. Both are equally good, yet so different. I added a few small cubes to the OBSQ and it has released so much flavor. Sweet then spicy with a nice long finish!
RepTucker
Had the jefferson's ocean batch 3 earlier today. Very light bodied. I guess i tasted the "salt" from the ocean air in it. That or my brain was tricking me. Doubt very much that i would pay the 80 a store wants for it. Thankful for the free taste.

jvd99
AAA 10 year. Picked up 3 of these a few years ago and they've been sitting in the bunker. Very nice indeed.
Paddy
Resisted the rye urge and went back to the Baker's tonight. With this weather, I'm definitely headed toward the rye tomorrow!
flahute
Thanks for the feedback. I've got one, but just haven't opened it yet. It is pretty cold outside now though isn't it? :grin:Why yes, yes it is cold outside. Perfect rye weather.garbonzobean may have a god point. The '12 Handy I've been drinking at the bar has been open for 2-3 months and has the benefit of full air time.
Mardbrown
Cracked open my OFBB '14. I'm reserving judgement on this one till enough air has entered bottle. I've had to eat my own words once to many times.

Tony Santana
Ran an errand late yesterday afternoon, intending to go back to work afterwards, but saw an old friend sitting at the bar when I walked by. That led to a Knob Creek. Only had one, back to work for about half an hour, then stopped at another watering hole before going home. First time I've been in two different bars in a day in a while. Had a Bulleit Rye there. Neither place had an outstanding selection to choose from. Then took my wife to a nice steak joint for dinner, they actually had a pretty decent bourbon list. Some selections a bit vague though - "Willett", for example. Asked to see the bottle and it was the Pot Still. Since the drinks at the bars were both heavy pours and I was driving, thought discretion called for a pinot noir rather than another high proof drink. Probably a wise choice. A CEHT single barrel pour when I got home. That, and a long week, finished me off.

matthewdc
Opened a WTRR10/101. Just as I remembered it. Of course the cork broke... But a very solid pour.
GaryT
Tasted through several different Jim Beam Sig Craft varieties (quarter cask finished, 12 yr old, spanish brandy finished). While not a fan of JB white label, each of these was interesting - especially the 12 yr. I'd love to see that at a higher proof.

EvergladeSlim
Tonight's blind SBS: Stagg '14 vs Bookers 25th. Two fantastic bourbons. The Bookers 25 is getting low so I figured I'd give this heavyweight matchup a shot before its too late. The Stagg is a touch darker, which kind of spoiled the blind SBS because I was able to pick it out right away. I'd give the nose to Stagg as well as the texture. The Bookers is just a little bit thinner. For my tastes, I feel the Bookers is a little more balanced, but I still like the Stagg better. While both have a fantastic finish, the Stagg is a bit longer. So for me - tonight - I'd say Stagg is the winner.
garbanzobean
Tonight I was able to go to a location that served extremely reasonable tasting pours of limited edition bourbons and whiskies. So I ended up having a 2 ounce PVW15 pour and one ounce pours of PH8 and FRSmBLE2014. This was my first time trying all three. The PVW15 was decent, but confirmed once again that I just prefer normal aged rye mashbill bourbons to wheaters of any age. It also fell short of WLW, but there was more than a passing family resemblance. Definitely my favorite of the three PVW bottlings. No need for me to seek this one out, though. The PH8 I liked quite well, but I'm not sure I need a full bottle of it. May change my mind if I don't have to hunt for it. The FRSmBLE was lacking some of the depth of the 2013, but was excellent overall and is something I'd absolutely want to procure a bottle of. Then again I would probably be just as happy with the regular small batch at barrel proof. My bill for the night was a hair over $19.
