flahute
I picked up a number of pedestrian but reliable bottles this week during a biz trip to Tennessee and Virginia. Really not worth mentioning in the other appropriate thread. But literally, had my hands on the Beam Signature Soft Red Wheat at three different stores, only to set it back to their places on the shelves. That is very noteworthy for me, as it is most definitely a first for me on a bottle that I want to get. WTF is wrong with me...?!?! Joey gettin' a conscience? Have I become disciplined?!? Proper restraint?!? Finally showing more self control than our Sheltie? Is my Whiskirexia Nervosa in remission?!?I'm frightened...

tigerlam92
Had the manager of one of my main stores tell me she had a Michter's 20 year in the safe if i was interested. Wasn't interested and they didn't have the price in their computer yet, but she said their cost was $350.If at $350, or nearby, that would be a very good price. tanstaafl2
If at $350, or nearby, that would be a very good price.Specifically in the artificially world that is Michter's prices perhaps! But there is nothing truly good about that price.

rcs86
I'm gonna guess somewhere from $400-$425 based on how this story usually is. I'm just not looking to spend that on something that I haven't had.

BFerguson
Passed on some WIllett 6yr rye for $80+, frankly, that's just nuts. I've spent way north of that before, but never for anything so young and common. Also passed on a Lost Prophet, but that one will be revisited shortly in another thread. PaulO
I saw something new to me: Old Scout "at least 10 years old" 100 proof. It appears not to be single barrel.
kjbeggs
Passed on Pappy 20 and 23 today.A couple years ago, they changed the laws regarding the areas just outside my small home town (a place where we couldn't even buy beer during my "formative" years), and a couple of small liquor stores popped up.On the way home from visiting my Mother, I finally decided to stop in on the off-chance maybe they had a few bottles of Weller12.At the second place, as I walked in, I saw the familiar Red and Black bags behind the counter and my heart jumped up into my throat. Playing it cool, I headed down the bourbon aisle and browsed for a couple minutes.finding no Weller 12, I made my way back to the counter and asked about the price on the Pappy's. (Never a good sign when they have no price tag/sign). "$800 for the 20, and $1400 for the 23" came the answer.I thanked them and headed for the door. 'No Pappy today?", they asked. "Not at those prices" I answered on my way out.
mbroo5880i
I passed on a lot of stuff. I guess I was disappointed because I visited several high traffic chain stores (each from a different chain) and found a lot of the standards not on the shelf and the prices higher than they were just a month ago. I saw no Old Fitz, a single bottle of EWSB at only one store and a single bottle of WL SR (no OWA or WL12) at one store. Plenty of purple passion and increasingly overpriced NDP options. None of the chain stores had FRSB standard on the shelves. I haven't seen things this dry in a while. Plenty of crap options. I guess I need to start expanding the stores I visit.I did pass on Bulleit Bourbon and Bulleit Rye at one store for $25. A month ago that would have been the standard price but now that is the sale price.

t44tq
ECBP in PA? Huh? How?I passed on an ORVW for 250 and another for 200 in Saratoga Springs over the weekend. I thought about that one for 200, but ultimately passed.
t44tq
Man, that's a lot more for an SAOS 8 yr than I'm paying ($39.99). Guess that's even more reason to put a few away. That might be the difference in taxes and distributors. Also, they might be marking it up a lot due to it being a barrel select.
