Kyjd75
Well, Eric's store in Elizabethtown (Packages & More Liquors) is always a good stop for bourbon enthusiasts.
Shell
I'll be visiting Columbus, OH in a couple of days. I've heard that the bourbon and rye selection and prices are worth a visit to KY, & thought a 2 hour detour to Covington, KY might make sense.Any Covington, KY liquor stores anyone could recommend? Are the prices really lower than in MI?Thanks for the advice,Shell
fricky
The Party Source in Bellevue, KY and the Cork n Bottle in Covington, KY have great selections of bourbon. While in the area, consider visiting the Hofbrauhaus in Newport, KY.

It seemed like there were several bottles with lower prices than in here MI. Do you find the prices pretty similar between Party Source and Cork n Bottle? fricky
The prices have been similar; however, both have private barrel selections that are worth tasting.
Phil T
Unfortunately, right now the private barrel selection at TPS is very skinny. They have a bunch of new ones due in, in the next month or so
Shell
I just compared some bourbon prices at The Party Store compared to MI's state minimum - I was blown away at the savings. Wondering if their single malt scotch prices tend to be lower as well.

Phil T
Four Roses? The shelves have been barren lately.Yep. Supposed to be their pick of the standard SB, and some barrel strength iterations, but they did not say which recipes
TheBeerdedGuy
I'll be in Frankfort on Saturday. Going to visit Buffalo Trace and Woodford Reserve again. Anybody know of any must visit stores in that area?
mbroo5880i
I like to stop at Red Dot (the one on US-127) and Capital Cellars (downtown and really close to Buffalo Trace).
MOwhisky4me
I'll second the Capital Cellars recommendation. Spent a few days in Frankfort at the end of our family vacation last summer and toured Woodford and did some other bourbon related site-seeing. Stopped in Capital Cellars on the recommendation of several on this board... Spent a LONG time drooling over available choices and walked out with $150 worth of tasty stuff! While you're in the area I'll suggest you drive by the Old Taylor distillery (The Castle) and see what kind of progress is being made on bringing her back to life! They let me stop and take pics last year after I talked to the foreman on the job. Couldn't go inside, but it was a rush just to see something going on there after years of neglect! I've been close to the Old Taylor Distillery a couple of times, and never knew it was there. I like to go through Millville to get to Woodford, as it's more scenic. Now that I know it's there, I'm adding it to my list of places I'm going Saturday, along with Capital Cellars. Thanks for the information!

Shell
My visit to The Party Store was fantastic. What an outstanding selection. And, the tasting bar was a great way to sample a bottle before purchase. I've become an ardent fan of OKI, the high rye bourbon available in KY and Cincinnati. I understand that it's an MPG product, but truly memorable. Too bad that Ky doesn't allow out of state shipping. Not sure the Cincinnati stores that have OKI are allowed to ship. I haven't tried the OKI; but certainly agree with you about the PS selection and tasting option. Cheers! :drink:

WhiskyRI
So I'll be passing through Kentucky at the end of March - coming up from Memphis and exiting through West Virginia. My plan right now is a brief stop in Bardstown to tour Heaven Hill and Willett (mostly to visit the guest shops) - are there any stores in Bardstown or on/near I-64 that are especially detour worthy? As much as I'd like to visit more distilleries and spend some time in Louisville it just won't happen this trip due to time constraints. My interest is primarily looking for interesting and tasty private barrels - as well as some of the Kentucky only distributions.
Paddy
Liquor Barn (multiple locations), as you pass through Lexington. Largest selection, as well as best opportunity for multiple private selections in one stop. Just don't get your hopes up for anything limited, but the selection here is very good! Ionnaeus
Keeping this thread going - my biggest surprise was at the Walgreen's in Bardstown. They had an awesome selection of Bourbons. I bought 4 or 5 bottles there the night before we started the Trail. Edited April 4, 2016 by Ionnaeus
Fort Knox
Heading to Louisville in 4 weeks with the wife. We'll probably hit Wild Turkey and Town Branch while in the area, since they're the only ones on the Bourbon Trail that we haven't hit. Maybe return to Heaven Hill or Buffalo Trace again just because. We also plan on hitting Bourbons Bistro for dinner one night, since it was such an awesome meal when we went there last year. I'll probably hit a Liquor Barn, and maybe Capital Cellars. Any other suggestions?
