Vadertime
There is also the Tobacco/Leather factor. I had a nice session last night that ended with WT8YO from 03. Boy the intensity really knocked me on my socks and the flavor persisted through brushing my teeth!
Quintilian
I usually go where my mood takes me. Sometimes I do pour bourbons of the same company to do comparisons. For example, one night I did comparison pours of EWSB and EWBiB. I've done the same with WT101 and WRRB and comparing BT and ER10. Making moves like that has made me appreciate how EWBiB is such a quality bourbon at a great price. I'm not dogging on EWSB, but for the price, ounce for ounce EWBiB is one of the best bargains out there.
NickSmithIsDead
I seem to be the odd one out here in that I usually go down the ladder in terms of both proof and quality. For example, the past few nights have been a small pour of a 4r OESQ, followed by a healthy pour of OGD BIB, with the night finished with a small pour of Breckenridge (a gifted bottle from my boss that I find to be just OK). I think it's part not wanting to overdo it (those barrel providers sneak up on you) and part trying to save "the good stuff," but I also find that I enjoy and can pick apart the flavors of the lower proof stuff better after having primed my palate with something much stronger. Then again, that could just be the bourbon talking.
tanstaafl2
I guess I am on a cargo net more than a ladder. Heck, I don't always stay with bourbon or even American whiskey in a single night. Sometimes it is not even within the broader category of whiskey. Tequila, rum, barrel aged gin, brandy and whatever else I happen upon could find their way into the mix! dSculptor
I usually will not go down in quality once I'm at or near the top. I mean would you really go from GTS down to let's say ...ET? I think not, but I might go to let's say a ...KCSB. We all have our own list of "quality bottles" so that term could be all over the place. Think I'll start with some Larceny right now!
