High Rye Bourbon recommendations

I am a rye whiskey fan. I recently picked up a bottle of Redemption High-Rye Bourbon because of the 38% rye proportion in the mash bill. All I can say is that the bottle is now 2/3 empty! (I'll admit that my wife helped a bit ...)

What other high-rye bourbons would be recommended?

I understand that Four Roses has a similar rye percentage, but was wondering of you recommend the small batch or single barrel?

I've had and enjoyed Bulleit Bourbon, but I like the rye dominance of the Redemption High-Rye Bourbon more. I'm guessing the Bulleit rye percentage is likely lower.

thanks very much,

Shell

While both are very well received, I much prefer the 4RSB over the Smb.

You may also want to try OGD and/or Basil Hayden's, as both are of a high rye mashbill.

I would second the OGD (either BIB or 114). Basil Hayden is the same mashbill, but very different from the OGDs (at least to my palate). And while "high rye", it is 27% rye (per the Whiskey Tree). Old Forrester Sig is also one that is a high rye mashbill if you like that sort of thing (which I do!)

Four Roses Single Barrel and Old Grand Dad (BIB or 114) are obvious choices and great options, if you have not tried them. Ritt BIB, while a rye, is close to a bourbon so it might be worth a try.

I really like Rittenhouse Rye 100 Bottled in Bond - both for sipping and for Manhattans. These are great recommendations. Thx.

Like Paddy, I prefer 4RSB over 4RSmB, but both are solid bourbons.

While I have not been able to find Old Forester Signature around my parts, Old Forester is worth a try.

OGDBiB has become one of my standard pours. It's high rye. OGD114 is certainly worth your time also.

I also like WTRye101 though I can't find it, and I've heard that once it was reintroduced, the price skyrocketed. From what I recall, it was a rye slap in the mouth (in a good way). I also like Russel's Reserve Rye.

I do like Bulleit Rye. From reading the various posts, it seems that in both Bulleit Bourbons (the standard and 10), the rye % is about 28%.

Eiljah Craig. I guess its no more high rye than the other HH offerings, but it seems to bring it out a lot more than the rest with its age and woody-ness.

Agree with the 4RSB, OGDBIB, OGD114, & OFSig, love them all. For some reason Basil and Bulliet just don't do it for me.

It's amazing to me that all of these are high rye bourbons, since they are all so different from each other. To me, the OGD offerings are on the sweet/caramel side (which I like) while the 4RSB and OFSig are more on the dry/fruity side (which I also like, though maybe a slight bit less). I have not had Basil, but I have had Bullet and I too like it less than the others mentioned.

Just goes to show that mash bill doesn't mean a whole lot.

If you really want a punch in the mouth go out and find an OBSK 4 Roses Private Selection. You get the high rye recipe combined with the K "spicy" yeast strain. Definitely one of my favorites.

OBSK is the shizzle. Can't go wrong with the other suggestions of FRSB, OGD, WTRB, etc. I'll also throw out Smooth Ambler Old Scout as some rye-forward bourbons, with the 7 year being terrific around $30.
