Hop
I'm sure all of us have some regrets particularly since hindsight is always 20/20. I have a few that just haven't met my tasteEagle Rare 10EH Taylor BPAngels EnvyBasil Hayden'sBakersWT 101WT Rare BreedEven though I enjoy expressions from some of these same distillers these particular ones just aren't in my wheelhouse. smokinjoe
Just about every craft whiskey I've purchased...honestly. Outside of a few, the other dozen or so were very regrettable purchases. I'll also add most of the Woodford Master's Collection. The ryes, Sonoma Cutrer, 4 Grain. Waste of my money.
jfw
I'm with you on the Master's collection. I used to buy them because they were something different to try. Now, I avoid them. I tasted this year's offering at WhiskeyFest SF (Sonoma-Cutrer Pinot Noir finish). Granted, it was well into WF but when your notes read "ungodly and undrinkable" it probably isn't very good. Worst thing I tried there by far.I have some dusty Old Charter7 that is also pretty bad. On the bright side, it was $10 and not $90 like the master's collection. maybeling
I know this may be a bit polarizing, but I really regret purchasing Balcones Brimstone. Considering using it in some BBQ sauce or something bc I just cannot drink it... To me it tastes like corn whiskey with liquid smoke mixed in. With that said, I wish Chip the best for any future endeavors.

Tony Santana
Russell's Reserve Small Batch Single Barrel. I've bought many bottles that weren't as good as their price, but I still liked the bourbon and just chalked it up to experience. The RR SmB SB wasn't terrible, it got finished with the help of multiple friends, but it wasn't very good. If I drop $25 on something and don't like it, so be it. If I drop $55 on something and don't like it, I feel ripped off.
GaryT
A Willett 25 yr Rye. It isn't a bad whiskey persay, but I bought it with Doug's green ink rye in the back of my mind (and was still fairly new to aged rye). A learning experience to say the least. A very woody whiskey - I think it should have been pulled maybe 5 to 8 yrs earlier, and had I sampled it first - never would have bought it. An expensive lesson to be sure (although not as expensive as it would be had I made it more recently I suppose!)
Special Reserve
Now I regret that back in the day, I only bought 1 PVW product at a time when I could have easily bought two or three. Oh well. There aren't too many bourbons that I regret buying. Some I didn't like at well as others but don't regret buying them.

Harry in WashDC
I absolutely loved an Old Forester Birthday a friend of mine gave me. So, when I saw an OF Signature in a remainder bin, I bought it. It's taken me over a year to drink it. I thought it was a bad bottle, so I bought a second about 6 months ago. Opened it and tasted it. I now have TWO bottles of a bourbon that I find not quite passable. Funny thing - I lately tried a shot of OF B'day at a bar and loved it. What up with that? AND, then there's "Estate Bottled" Old Bardstown which, as I've posted before, tastes to me like Karo syrup with some hot pepper flakes and corn oil stirred in. That, too, is a surprise because there are some KBD offerings (the occasional Willett) that I like.Diff'rent strokes and palates, I guess.
mbroo5880i
Actually, neither is bourbon but both are enjoyed by bourbon enthusiasts - George Dickel #12 and Baby Saz. GD #12 was an easy one to pick out for why I didn't enjoy it. I didn't like Flintstones vitamins as a kid and I don't like them now. Too many other things I prefer in the price range. I ended up giving 1/2 a bottle away. Baby Saz is a mystery. I really like rye whiskey and not just MGPI/LDI. Something about it just didn't catch my fancy. I finished the bottle but won't buy another.
Paddy
Every bottle is an experience...some good, some bad. No regrets here, as I consider them all a part of my education.

ramblinman
WTR81, I liked the 101 so much and decided to give it a try when that was discontinued. Lesson learned. It's been on my shelf for a couple years now and probably still about half the bottle left despite trying to push it as a mixer at every party we host and making regular appearances in my blind tastings. WhiskyRI
My biggest disappointment has to be Stagg Jr. A year ago Brimstone would also have made that list but lately I've grown to like it, not love it, but I reach for it by choice periodically. jvd99
Woodford ReserveWhatever it is from Iowa (gift)Beer Barrel bourbon (gift)Hudson (all versions) at a tasting - didn't buy these but I would have regretted spending on themJourneyman (tasted all offerings at a bar) I avoid a lot of the "craft" offerings at this point because it is either overpriced & sourced or too young & overpriced. I also don't trust that colorings, additives or filtering is taking place but not being disclosed. I stick to more traditional offerings to make sure money is well spent on products from BT, FR, WT, MM etc. and LEs when I can get them. Some Balcones products would be an exception, however, the Chip Tate fiasco has me worried that we've seen the last of the really innovative and well made stuff. dcbt
I can't say I've ever purchased an entire bottle I regret. The only bourbon I've truly disliked has been Herman Marshall, which I tried at a bar so no biggie.
risenc
Maybe this is cheating the question a bit, but I have a corner of my shelf dedicated to unaged whiskeys (or whatever you want to call it) -- a few I bought, others were gifts. Don't ask why I bought more than one, but none has more than an ounce or two missing. I've never figured out how or why to drink that stuff; some brands are better than others, but the whole category is a mystery to me. I've never met anyone, aside from the distillers themselves, who likes it. Also, I'd second jvd99 on the Beer-Barrel Bourbon. It's not offensive, but I can't find the "beer barrel" in it. Tastes like generic NDP whiskey to me.
