I try to defend it in that I was not at all tricked about the juice inside. It's very clearly unaged rye "whiskey". In that respect, I couldn't help my stupid curiosity and compulsion to try new things.

During my time from a bourbon novice to now enthusiast ( a period of several years ), I have poured a total of three ( 3 ) bottles down the drain. The first was Beam's Devil's Cut, which to me was the most wretched excuse of a bourbon I had ever tried. Simply undrinkable. The second was WR Double Oaked, which I bought in order to give WR another chance ( I don't care for regular WR, but I hadn't poured any down the drain ). Well, for me the Double Oaked had a very peculiar and unpleasant taste that I simply couldn't get used to or understand. About halfway through the bottle, down the drain it went. Finally, the third and final bottle was a bottle of ER 10 yr that I believe must have been a bad bottle, as it was horrible right from the beginning and never got any better. I have had and enjoyed many different BT products, but none were ever remotely like this bottle. Ultimately, down the drain it went as well.

Since then I've an occasional bottle I didn't care for, but now I simply give to one of my bourbon friends to let them try it and see if they have a different take on the bottle. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

Forgot about the Devils Cut. Was one of my first bourbons and it almost had go back to scotch. Vile, vile stuff.

It was about that time I found this site and had my eyes opened.

Thank God, everything I've found to be less than stellar has had enough alcohol in it to keep me from having to pour it out!

Pure Kentucky XO. Was happy to find it while visiting Austin back in the spring. It just didn't do it for me. I tried and tried...It was like swallowing a handful of sawdust for me. I get a sawdust note on the nose or a slight taste in other bourbons, but this was a sawdust party in my mouth (and not in a good way). I tried neat, with water and as a mixer. Finally poured out the last 1/3 of the bottle.

Two that come to mind are Wild Turkey Diamond which was OK but not worth the price. Could have got 3 WT Rare Breed

for the price of the Diamond and the Jefferson Presidental 21. That was almost painful to drink. Pulled it out on holidays to make guests think I was giving them something good. Finished off the bottle by using it for marinade. Best surprise in a pour was the Weller 12. I felt it rivaled the Jefferson's 18 which was the ultimate pour for my taste

Jefferson's Presidential 18 year. Tastes like turpentine to me. It tastes so bad, it makes me wonder if I got a counterfeit bottle, because no way would they put out a whiskey so terrible. It was at a store in Houston that occasionally has a special bottle, but its pretty rare.

that is exactly what I thought with my experience with ECBP, that I mustve gotten a fake or something as it was horrid. I took it to the KBF and others thought it was fine and tasted like it should. thinking that if thats the way it "should" taste, Ive not bothered to buy another.

tastes vary.....that makes this site work

ER10 used o be consistent and consistently great. I've been disappointed in the last 2 out o' 3 bottles purchased, both 1.75L, murphy's law again.

I purchased a bottle of EH Taylor Tornado for $70 when it was released and absolutely hated it. The astringent taste made it seem like they bottle Old Crow by accident. I haven't had a drink from the bottle in two years - maybe I should go back for another dram.

I bought the Willet 2 yr old Rye and just not a fan. Maybe it's me. Tried it in a few mixed drinks as well and just can't say I'd buy I again. Love the Knob Creek Rye, Rittenhouse Rye. What is wrong with me?

Handy of the BTAC, even though I have never actually opened any yet. Thing is I bought two bottles the first year I was getting into ryes when I had a choice of that or Saz 18. I saw the higher proof and assumed I was doing the right thing, ignorant of how special the 18 is. Now every time I see the Handy I can only seem to think of how they could have been something else.

I'd open one before making a final judgement. I've had a couple pours of Handy that beat out any Saz 18 I've come across.

Simple solution, open them up and drink them then you won't have to look at them anymore.

Black Maple Hill (NAS red label) - enjoyed it greatly the first time, but I bought it further afield than my local. Many months later my guy got some and I bought three. Two are still in the basement; the first one was donated to a friend after a glass or two.

Journeyman four grain (is that the one that makes a big deal about giving profits to Golf?) ... Brought the 90% full bottle to my family thanksgiving to put on the bar - it's been there every year for the last 3

EC21 - Still in my cabinet, I use it to demonstrate what an Oak lollipop would taste like.

Not bad advice. But I thought the sentence was going to end "and drink them until they look like whatever you want them to!"

My wife had been trying different things to see if there is something better for her than her MM. Most of what she buys is 50 mm singles, but she has bought some 200 and 375s as well. I generally try those bottles if I have not previously had any. While I don't exactly regret any of those purchases, because you don't know what you don't know, Woodford Reserve and Eagle Rare 10 will not be returning at any price and Rock Hill Farms, while pleasant, is not worth the price. I will enjoy the RHF while it lasts, but there are better choices for me for the money.

I'm with you on the WR

I'll put Bowman Vanilla Bean Finished on the list. I gave theme the benefit of the doubt as the Gingerbread Bourbon was great but the Vanilla was gross. Worst $70 I have ever spent on bourbon.
