Bottles You Regret Buying?

I had a friend buy a bottle of this for a hunting trip. Needless to say, I'm glad I didn't spend any money on it. It was very light in taste and color, almost light a blended whiskey. Yuck

I had a sample once in a store. It reminded me of Old Grandad, but not as good.

I think the only thing I've ever had regret over was the 2013 AECS. Good thing I took my time and had a few pours with a friend before I was married to mine for life.

Only 2 bottles I can think of; both bland versions of rye.

Old Overholt I found to be so watery that by the time I got down to what would have been the last 3-4 pours I poured it down the sink. It was too bland even to use in a cocktail.

More recently, Alberta Premium. Heard a lot of good things about this 100% rye. But to me it tastes only slightly better than the standard Canadian blend. And that's a pretty low hurdle to clear.

There's a rich history to OO. Too bad the present offering does that history such injustice. Beam/Suntory seems to have killed it. Perhaps in favor of their name sake entry level Yellow label rye which I must admit makes a fine Manhattan and for the price a decent sipper.

A Store Select FRSiB OBSK. Price was okay at $34.99...just didn't like the juice. But don't regret it too much as I was supporting my local store and selling that barrel has them sold on barrel selects and they are getting 1792, KC, JR "Ridiculously small batch", ER, BT and SAOS 11yo, the 1792 being the 1st delivered tomorrow. And it got me a invite to a private Whistle Pig/whole hog roast and single barrel tasting. So Nevermind...NO REGETS

Wathen's and Willet Pot Still... just never liked them enough. Wathen's was pretty flavorless to me, but it's good enough for old fashions so that's what I use it for now.

WPS was highly recommended by a guy at the store, so I figured why not? I wasn't a fan of the rye taste to it, almost felt like it was too much. Now it just sits there and I hope that there comes a day where I will find it enjoyable... but at least the bottle looks kinda cool.

I have to wonder if there's any consistency at all to what they're dumping into the WPS bottles. There was no trace of rye in the bottle I had; just heat and corn.

Yeah I got a couple of really good bottles a few years back but I haven't cared for any I've tried more recently.

Didn't like 4 Roses Small Batch at all at first...until I tried it in a Manhattan. Wow does it make an amazing one with some Dolin Rouge!

I didnt care for my WPS at all at first. Then I used it as a night cap after 3 or 4 drinks before it and started to enjoy it. Now I can even lead off with it and I like it. Maybe try it again after its been open a while?

1792 Ridgemont Reserve. It has been more than three years since I had any. Always preferred its little brother VOB BIB 6YO. Decided to give the 1792 another chance. Mistake. Still prefer the VOB even though it is now just #6 instead of 6YO. And for the price of the 1792 I can get a handle of VOB.

I would say Four Roses Small Batch. There's nothing wrong with it, and it is a very reliable blend, but I should have just gone straight to the single barrels and saved myself the time of working thru the small batch.

Had one of the most unpleasant pours at a bar last night. So don't know if this belongs in this thread but I regret even buying the pour.

I paid $27 for a pour of Woodford sonoma cutrer pinot noir finished. It had this funky bitter cherry flavor and finish. Really bad.

I tried it again a month ago after it was open for a month or so, and I still didn't care for it. Maybe I'll try it again in the hope some air made it better. and yes, after 3 or 4 drinks anything might taste pretty good!

A good rule of thumb is to never pay anything for any of the Woodford Masters Collection until you have tried it first! And there should be plenty out there to try because almost every one that has been opened and tried is probably still waiting for that second pour to happen...

And the next one is said to be TEQUILA finished. Look out!

Retailers are going to have to start putting their feet down and not ordering these. They can't be happy with the shelf occupation by now. Not even the height of the bourbon boom can get these sold.

Very true- the Four Woods wasn't bad (I have friends that LOVE this stuff), the aged Rye wasn't bad, never liked any of the others. I haven't tried the Four Grain, but I heard that was good. I wouldn't pay the $100 price to buy one of these, though.
