KyleCBreese
Angel's Envy and a Dickel 9-year Barrel Select. I don't like the Port finish on the AE and I can't get over the vitamin flavor on the GD9. I nose the GD9 every once in a while to see if I can maybe have another pour, but I can't get past it. Nillion
Any, and all White Dog. Yep. I kept buying and trying, and dumping them down the drain. Could not find a good use for any of them.
drunk
I'll jump on the hate train for Willett Pot Still (rancid buttered popcorn) and craft whiskey (Yahara Bay - undercooked corn and weeds), although both of those were gifts, so they don't count. My biggest purchase regret might be Barterhouse. I knew better than to spend $80 on a marketing gimmick, and I was kicking myself for falling for it after opening it up. Is it bad? Not at all. I just felt like a sucker.
BonVivant84
Not bourbon, but - Bruichladdich 10 Year Old - The Laddie Ten – sour baby formula / vomit – easily one of the worst things I have ever had, whiskey or otherwise.

I was literally going to make this EXACT same post. Every bottle of AE I've bought. It's never terrible, just not price aligned. Also the GD 12 year and GD 9 year. I guess my palate just doesn't line up with those.

The Black Tot
The only regret I have is buying my first bottle of GTS. I fell in love with that profile after the first sip and now spend way too much time every fall desperately seeking a bottle of two. Haha, nice. Yeah, I think we all have one or two of THOSE kinds of regrets
Lost Pollito
White dog is sort of interesting to taste but I cannot imagine ever wanting a full bottle of it. Hell, I don't even want a full pour of it. A sip or two and I'm done.Exactly. A sip....not bad. Educational. Full bottle....bad idea for me. I used the rest with Apple juice to spray on my BBQ Ribs and pulled pork to keep it moist while cooking.

flaminiom
Black Maple Hill red label. Expensive and not enjoyable. That and some craft distilleries like others have said.

Guest
John b stetsoni thought it was going to be average before I bought it and got it anyway, thats how desperate I am to try something new.The main reason I regret it is that I could have got a second bottle of larceny instead. Renegator
Woodford Reserve Masters Collection - specifically the Maple finish. It tasted like the whiskey had gone bad. I also had a bottle of the Seasoned Oak which I found to be not so good either. Expensive lesson learned but at least it saves me $100 every year because now I avoid the Masters Collection. squire
Perhaps disappointment is the greatest lesson I learned from buying everything. Overpriced, under performing bottles curbed my enthusiasm and now I save a lot of money that can be better spent elsewhere.
TunnelTiger
Agree 100% Squire. My days of experimenting and hoping I'll find something better are finally behind me.There are more good bottles at all price points than I can enjoy.
kjbeggs
Willet Pot Still Reserve is one of the most inconsistent bottling a I've encountered. Why they insist on making this a single barrel when they obviously can't get a consistent profile from the sourced barrels they use is beyond me. The only bottle of it I've ever bought tasted like young corn whiskey with a black walnut note, but I've had it on other occasions and found it to be a fairly pleasant typical bourbon. That's the exact same taste I got from the only bottle I've ever purchased for myself. kjbeggs
While it's entirely drinkable, i do regret going out of my way to spend $300 on two bottles of JD Sinatra Select, back when it was only available in Airports and Tennessee. The only bottle I've ever given away because I just could not drink it, was a 2013 Garrison Brothers. GerryM
I'd never say this to my favorite retailers only because I don't want to risk losing my allocations but I've reached the point where if I don't recognize the distillery I have zero interest it. Its all marketing BS where someone sees a chance to make a buck bottling god knows what and trying to tie a good story to it. JR Ewing, The Duke, etc. You can also include the endless number of wineries and breweries now getting in on the gold rush. It just makes for more closeout bin stock. You try their bottles, they try yours and you make mental notes. Also, some progressive stores have mini whiskeyFests. You can try a whole bunch free of charge there.Where it gets to be a head scratcher is when you read good things but can't find a friend or bar to try first. I am wondering if Barterhouse is worth the money.
jvd99
I forgot about white dog. I bought the white dog when I first started getting interested in bourbon. Thought it looked really cool and that I was cooler for having bought it. After about 1 1/2 sips, the whole thing was emptied into the sink. Not too much regret there, but more of a learning experience.
Guest
Not sure if it has changed but stetson was originally a wheated bourbon sourced from HH...Its currently marketed as being distilled from a four grain mash in a pot still
P&MLiquorsEric
Its currently marketed as being distilled from a four grain mash in a pot stillThis was more than 2 years ago when we brought it in. A rep from the brand relayed the info to me. It has long been discontinued in our store.
