Getting into the Bourbon Industry

Anybody on here know what it takes to get into the bourbon industry?

Really though, I would guess look for ads in newspapers, make some phone calls, check the internet or since you live right there in KY take some time to visit distilleries and 'make some friends'. It would probably also depend on what you are looking for... Do you want to get your foot in the door doing manual labor or are you looking for some type of a desk job? Whatever it may be good luck.

There is no "Bourbon Industry" except at the production level. Distilleries do hire a lot of people in a variety of jobs. I think for the most part, people at the distilleries (unless their last name is Beam, and often even when it is) start in entry level jobs and work their way up.

The most important job in a distillery is, of course, bottling line mechanic.

Why I say there is no "Bourbon Industry" is that, beyond the jobs in the distilleries themselves, it's really the booze industry or, if you prefer, the beverage alcohol industry. The jobs in marketing, sales and management usually involve the whole range of beverage alcohol products, of which bourbon is just a part.

For those jobs, marketing and management jobs will typically require an advanced degree, generally an MBA. Sales jobs will typically require at least an undergraduate degree or some damn fine sales experience.
