I don't live in the city, but travel there every few weeks. Where should I be making sure to stop whenever I'm up that way? My next trip is Tuesday and I'll have just a few hours before I need to head home.

Greens and Tower are on my list, but looking for places I might not stumble on as easily that might surprise me with their offering.

Thanks in advance!

What exactly are you looking for?

Special editions - I don't know any stores at this point that have anything, not saying you won't find anything, but you'll need some luck, maybe google some smaller stores in different neighborhoods

Private Selections - some decent stores around, post what your in to and I'm sure someone can point you in that direction

Otherwise, tower and greens are going to have about as wide a selection of the regular shelf stuff as any of the other stores you'll go in.

Assuming you might be looking for good store picks, cause that's the only thing out of the ordinary that you're likely to find.

I've mentioned it several times in various posts, but the Decatur Package Store has a particularly good barrel proof smooth ambler rye that I've probably bought near double digits of. I think others didn't enjoy it as much but it really hit the spot for me.

They also did a 9 year SAOS bourbon, that is quite nice. Deeper in body/flavor than the normal 10 year.

In addition to Decatur Package Store, which almost always seems to have a store pick or two in stock, you might want to check the DeKalb Bottle House on Briarcliff just north of Clairmont near I-85. The currently have about 4 store picks that I can think of (Knob Creek, Mastersons Rye, WT Russell's Reserve and a newly arrived FR 100 pf single barrel). I had a chance to offer my opinion on the last three picks, all of which were the one that made it to the store. So of course they are bloody marvelous!

Although not a lot left of the Masterson's and Russell's Reserve I think.

Smokerise Bottle Shoppe out Stone Mountain Freeway also tends to have a store pick or 3 in house. They just got an ER10 in for example.

Thanks for the suggestions - good store picks is really what I'm looking for right now, so that will be great.

When the limited releases come around again it's there anywhere that is consistently a winner for the to? Obviously it's always hit or miss, but in my first year in GA this year I missed a lot. Being writing easy driving distance of Binny's previously probably has me a little babied though.

At this point, you either need to be on a list with one of the big chains, willing to stand in line all night at Greens, you can pay out the ass for a "bourbon experience package" at Sigman Rd Bottle Shop or you need to build a relationship with a local store. They don't find their way to shelves very often around here, and if they do, I doubt too many people are going to be willing to post about it on an open forum visible to the whole world. Not that its a big secret now a days anyway.

As for private selections, the above spots are good spots for them. I'll add one more, Roswell Beverage tends to have a decent amount of private selections if you get up that way.

Thanks. I'm on very good terms with my local store which definitely helps - they're just in a more rural area so don't get as many limited editions in although they're working on it. Actually enjoyed waiting at Greens for the Pappy release with my wife, and we'll definitely do that again - just always looking for new suggestions since I'm new to the area.
