Stopped off at one of the big chains to grab a few cigars to give as Christmas gifts.

They had a couple bottles of the new release JB Distiller's Masterpiece.

100 proof, NAS (Extra-Aged), finished in Sherry casks, for $200.

I'm pretty sure there was a gift-shop release of this earlier, but never seen it in stores before.

Anyone tried it?

Not me and at that price it's not even on my radar. Don't care how good something might be, $200 is just out of my price range. Too much else I'd rather get with the money.

The signature craft has sherry added.

I'm guessing the distillers masterpiece wasn't selling at the gift shop for $250 so they sent it into distribution.

It's been here in Australia for several months for $250 AU (about $205 US). I did get a bottle for the bunker (I'll open it next time Fred Noe comes to town), but couldn't justify a second at that price. A friend in the industry had a small sample I got to try a while back. I remember thinking it was better than the Signature Craft Sherry Finish, but don't recall much beyond that (sorry, I know that's not much help...)

It's been on the shelves in Maryland for a couple weeks now. MD SBers, hit me up for location if you're interested.

It's $200 in NJ as well. I don't think it will sell that quickly. WT Diamond just sits on shelves around here and that is $80 cheaper.

Sure is a purdy bottle with a nice little ribbon in a lovely wooden display box though. That's got to be worth something...

And I suppose it is really the 2013 edition. It was released originally around Derby time in 2013. Given it s presumably a fairly small release that is how long it has been hanging around!

Altohugh it appears there were 2 batches with the second batch released in the Summer of 2014. Not sure there is a way to tell one from the other. Both are PX sherry finished.

Slight thread sedge, but i add my two bits.

Got to same this the other night at a tasting event. It wS one of the items I was looking forward to trying, that I hadn't had before.

Sherry totally rounds out the whiskey, completely softening all the edge off of it. Sweet. Very mellow. Longer finish than normal beam product. In the end really drinkable.

But after finishing it, what popped into my head was , that was really good Beam. Which made me think, at this level, I want something that doesn't just taste like their normal family resemblance.

Am I wrong? I almost liken it to the Parkers line where where most are the regular bill of goods, but very unique profiles that don't taste like everything else.

We just got a bottle in. $209.99 retail. Not interested. No age statement. I can pick up several bottles than I know I'll love for that price. Cool bottle and box though.

BevMo in California has this on sale for $119.99 right now (normally $229.99). The guy at the store said they hadn't sold a single bottle since it arrived 3 months ago, but after the sale price, he was selling them fairly regularly. I bought one. Probably not worth $120, but I'm a sucker for a sale. :)

I too bought one at the sale price. And I was able to use a 10% off coupon, so it brought down the price a little bit more.

I received a bottle of this as a wedding gift recently. I had seen it on shelves down in TN last December, so I was aware of its existence (and price). Not something I would have bought for myself due to the price. I opened it the other night and I really enjoyed it. As pointed out, it is very well rounded. I only had a small amount and need to revisit it for a better impression. Truly a beautiful display box and bottle, for what that's worth.

A perfect bottle to receive as a gift; something I enjoy but wouldn't buy for myself.
