Just saw this at the VA ABC store. Has anyone tried this? I was thinking of picking up one while I'm here, especially if it's better than the 2004.

I wonder how they compare...

Thanks in advance for the opinions..

While I think they try for a certain profile these are single barrel after all and comparisons are likely dependent on the particular barrel one has. I haven't seen any 2005 yet but haven't really looked yet either. The 2004 is still relatively available on the shelf here as of a few weeks ago.

What are we looking at...approx $32.00 out the door? By one and give it a go. Likely can't go wrong. And if you like it, buy more!

Bought one yesterday. Barrel number 324. Haven't opened it yet.

The OLCC has had it on sale for several months, at $26.95. May 1st it goes to $29.95.

Bought one in Terre Haute, Indiana while visiting family. I haven't seen any in Minneapolis, where I live. My bottle is from barrel 470. Barreled on 2/17/05 and bottled on 2/23/15.

I haven't opened it up yet, as I have too many open right now.

EWSB 2005 Barrel #299. They are 86.6 proof, and I've found the series members I've tried (all my 2001s, two of three 2002s, two of three 2003s, and one of two 2004s) to be related to, but spicier than, EWB. Variations between barrels from the same "vintage" do exist but are not as pronounced as variations year-to-year. IIRC, I liked the 2002s better than the other years but not enough to go crazy buying them up. Going forward, I may buy one of each year but only for fun, not because I NEED them.

I found the '05 to be slightly less spicy, and therefor less appealing to my taste buddies, than '04, which wasn't the best of the last few.

'02, was great. '03 was very good. These are, of course only one man's opinion(s) of 'em.

I think this might be what I replace my rapidly draining Bernheim with as my "light" drink.

I am enjoying the 2005 more than the previous years. This will be a nice light bourbon for the summer.

My Meijer store has the 2005 and I just saw 2006 in a Big Red today. I have a 2004 open and will get the other two to put in the waiting line. Haven't met an EW I haven't liked yet.

Wow. 2015 isn't even halfway through and we're already seeing 2006 EWSB? Wonder what is the hurry with HH this year.

I was thinking the same thing, mosugoji64. I've been seeing the '06 for almost two months around here.

Haven't scooped one up yet; but will pretty soon. I need to kill of a few more low-fill bottles. After grabbing a few selections in KY last month, my bunker is bursting at the seams.

Popped my first 05 a few days back, quite delicious, suffice it to say the bottle did not last long killed her last night, used a little in my cranberry mustard sauce, that I made for my roasted duck, which the duck turned out perfect on the grill...a 4 hr slow burn, the sauce was ok.

Just got an email from Heaven Hill's Bardstown Whiskey Society stating they have shipped all the 2005 bottling. Let the hoarding continue.

Just grabbed the only bottle of '05 that I've seen locally, there's still some '04 sitting in a few places in West TN.

About three weeks ago the huge Big Red in Bloomington had a lot of the 05. I just got the last one. Plenty of 04 & 06.

Just picked up a bottle at the St Louis Wine Market store in Chesterfield, MO because I hadn't had it in a while and the price was pretty good @ $27.00. Didn't pay any attention to the dates... Figured it was an '06 after reading through this thread but just looked and it's an '03! For anyone around that area they had 4 other bottles on the shelf although since I didn't check the dates I can't be sure they were the same as the bottle I picked up.

Dropped into a local grocery today and noticed they had two bottles of EWSB on the shelf... One was an '04 that I picked up, and the other was an '05.

The 06 that I saw on the shelf was only aged 8 years and 10 months. Hence the release in 2015.

Ran across a few '04 bottles in a small liquor store i don't frequent. Didn't pick them up because i already have enough EW. Everywhere else I've seen only the 06 bottles are available.

The 04 is pretty common in stores here, but I've only seen one or two bottles of the 05.
