tanstaafl2
finally got around to opening this... not sure if I like it or not. seems one dimensional to me, but it doesn't drink like it's almost 60% abv. at first smell it was a nice caramel smell, which was nice. then it turned to more alcohol-ish as I let it sit. maybe it's a heavy port taste to it? I haven't had port wine in years though, so I can't remember the exact taste. maybe I'll have to let it sit for a few weeks then revisit it.To me the port is pretty heavy although not as much as the 2013, which was propably the most one dimensional (but in a good way for me!), when we tried them all in a blind SBS a while back. But I like port and these are much stronger than any of the regular AE bourbons. The 2012 had been open for a while but the 2013 had only recently been opened and the 2014 was a newly opened bottle at this tasting in February. The 2014 seemed a bit more balanced to me than the 2013. Despite being very drinkable at proof all of them seemed to handle a touch of water well.I haven't gone back to the 2014 since so it might be time to try it again! Numismaniac
I have my local get me a bottle every year. Mainly for my collection, but as well for the event that you can sign up for. There's a card in the box, go online and register, etc.Wife and I were treated to a four course meal, all the regular AE you desire, and a AE cocktail pairing with each course. You get a t-shirt, great company, and either Wesley or his son Kyle will be there to sign bottles. We go to the one in Nashville, last one was at Moto Cocina, really great time! Well worth the cost. The wife and I left early to go get something real to eat since the apps weren't enough. it was a cool event, but definitely not what you got out of it! It has always been cocktails and appetizers (usually lots of appetizers but still appetizers) in my experience as well. In Nashville Wes very kindly treated us to dinner that night but it wasn't part of the event itself. So if you have gotten dinner each time I need to go to the ones you go to!
