Which OBSK is that? I mean, was it picked by people who really knew what the @#$% they were doing? Or is that the GBS pick?

Funny you should mention this. I recently picked up one each BP of OESO and OBSO. I like the OESO a lot by itself, with a little water, or with a chip of ice. I also like the OBSO but don't drink it neat because I only taste acetate so I drink it with a little water or an ice chip. Is funny how a shift from B's 60% corn 35% rye to E's 75% corn 20% rye (plus different barrels, etc.) can affect the taste. My OESQ is long gone - that had to be my favorite. This was a surprise (liking OEs over OBs) because I tend to like the high ryes from other houses, but for 4R not as much. ASIDE: I'll still drink them, though.

Early on I realized that I gravitate towards high corn mashbills. I really dig dusty Old Charter, for example, also famous for a very high corn component.

I haven't gone all the way to buying a Mellow Corn yet But I'll try it sometime when it's around.

Now we just need to beat the dead horse about 4R putting together a wheated mashbill for a total of 15 choices!!! That would take an entire lifetime to sort through, not that all the shades of the 10 aren't a good life's work already.

I've collected all ten. I've also got multiples of most of the recipes. Obviously I'm a fan.

When I did a sampling of all ten to figure out my favorite recipe, my favorite was an OESV. Bought a different OESV, and didn't like it as much. So much for that experiment.

They're all pretty great and I won't pass up a private barrel when I find it. Overall, I think I like the K yeasts best, which I think are popular for a reason. I like Q too probably because it's distinctly different for a bit of a change of pace. I'd buy a couple of the Ks when I find them. Maybe a couple Q if the price isn't stupid. B or E recipes are sort of a mood thing. Sometimes I'd like a bigger rye, sometimes not. Sometimes I don't really care.

In general though, I've yet to have anything but a great private barrel from Four Roses. Only question is whether I like it enough to buy one or several.

I've only tried about 5 of the options. It is kind of fun trying to track down the various recipes. I've tended to stick with the Es for the most part but I'd really like to find an O, that's the only yeast I haven't tried.

I have a working (Read: probably inaccurate) hypothesis that the E mashbill often (not always) allows FR's yeast strains to exert more influence on the final product than the B mashbill, be that good or bad. Though I think the K yeast works better with B than E.

More importantly, how do we clone JR to ensure a perpetual supply of this stuff? I'm really worried that if he retires, Four Roses is going to change the way they do business (wheaters, rye whiskey, etc). I don't want them getting all innovative, personally. I like things the way they are, and am worried that more "innovation" would lead to a loss of focus in the existing product line.

Nice! I'm currently at 9 of 10, though one of those is a completed bottle so there's really only 8 of 10 on hand.
