Only one 1.7L ...what would it be?

many people I know who LOVE bourbon have NEVER purchased any brand in 1.7Liter....I have only purchased one in all the many years I have enjoyed bourbon. If you could only buy one 1.7L that would be the only bourbon you could have till its gone, what would it be??? I think I would go with Buffalo Trace.

I'd have to agree, just having tasted Buffalo Trace which is a new general listing at the Liquor Control Board of Ontario. This whiskey has a medium-to-heavy body and a soft, balanced, tobacco/caramel corn/spicy palate that is very inviting. It has good length in the finish, too. This is whiskey of the top-most grade and reminds me in quality of the Forester Birthday Bourbon even though costing less the latter. A fine drink of whiskey, proving that at a median price America can deliver the best quality in the world. This more than gives the Scots a run for their money even at the best the Highlands can offer in the price/quality ratio. Putting it another way, I'd say Trace is America's Talisker or Ardbeg but is actually a better value.

I'm sure I sound like a broken record when I cast my vote on this one...I've gotta go with Buffalo Trace as well. I've always contended that standard BT is a top-shelf quality bourbon with a mid-shelf pricetag.

Ancient Ancient Age 10yo and EC12 would have to get 'honorable mentions' in this contest, as they both are available in 1.75L.

I'd be hard-pressed to choose between EC12 and WT101, but I wouldn't be too disappointed if I accidentally grabbed OGD BIB. (There is one practical consideration. The only 1.75 of bourbon that I've bought is EC12; it takes two hands to pour from that plump bottle, which lacks a handle. In contrast, my bottle of a European product named after a well-known bird has a well-designed handle, making it a snap to pour.)

The others are all bourbons I wouldn't mind doing without, although I've never actually tried Old Crow or Yellowstone.

Are additional bourbons available in 1.75 in other parts of the country?

Me, too. In fact, when Liquor Barn recently did not have Weller 12 in this size I bought two 750 ML just so I can keep "backstock." I also have Buffalo Trace in the larger container but drink the Weller more frequently. (But then I counted and I have 24 bourbons and about nine more whiskeys.)

It'd be such a toss up between Weller 12 YO and Buffalo Trace for me. But in the end I would have to go with the Weller 12 YO. I have to admit as well, like someone else did recently, I prefer wheaters. Not to say I don't like ryed bourbons by any means though!

Your list is remarkable in a couple ways.

First, there are several bottlings on your list that I've never heard of -- in any size. (Plus there are some that are not available here, notably the AAA 10 y/o.)

Second, ya'all must drink more than we Californians do, to warrant such a large selection in the 1.75 L. size. Party on!

Believe me, you're really not missing much. The vast majority of those are the sold-in-plastic bottom-shelf, $15-$17 for 1.75L variety. Honestly, I haven't tried most of 'em either.

AAA 10yo is about the only real gem that Virginia has in the big size.

I'm close enough to Maryland that it's worth the trip to get Buffalo Trace. Weller 12 still eludes me...I'll have to check DC sometime for that one.

You said just what I was... With the excepetion of the AAA many of those bottles are piss quite frankly. Even with the appeal of Virginia Gentleman "The Fox' the regular stuff is crap.

I buy 1.75 Liters all the time - VOB, Buffalo Trace, Elijah Craig 12 YO, AAA 10 YO, but it I had to pick just one it would be AAA 10 YO, followed by Buffalo Trace.

The OF 100-proof is the only one I have actually bought, but my top choice would be either EC-12 or WT-101. But, here in AL, I have not seen an EC-12 1.75L and the WT-101 1.75L does not give a significant cost savings over the 750 ml size.

I don't often by 1.75L bottles but I am going to cheat. I would love to by a 1.75 of Old Crow and pour it into a pot. I would then take 2 1/2 bottles of Pappy 20 year and pour them in. I would be in heaven. NOw to not waste the Old Crow, I owuld finish the last 1/2 bottle of Pappy and pour the Old Crow into the Pappy bottles. OK dream over.

That probably was me. In fact, until my Weller 12 yo ran out last week, I had a 1.75 of both the Weller and BT. Unfortunately, I haven't been pleased with the BT like I had in the past. This bottle seemed hot and harsh. I hope it was just that bottle or a phase I am going through. I'll know soon enough - the BT 1.75 is about gone and I have a 750ml in the bunker.

just for the record, the only 1.75L I have ever bought was Old Forester 100. But in addition to Buffalo Trace, I would also buy Ancient Ancient Age 10 Year in 1.7....beyond these I would just stick with Fifths/750's.

I watch the sales locally & buy 1.75L bottles (Evan Williams, Wild Turkey 101, 10 High, Old Charter 8 yr) that I bunker & use once a year to 'mingle' & rebottle my own mixture at a reasonable price. But if I'm buying 1.75L bottles to drink as-is, then Old Forester BIB, Old Charter 10 yr/12 yr, David Nicholson 1843 BIB. If I have to choose one, make it Old Charter 12 year.

While most of you won't have David Nicholson (it's basically Old Fitz BIB @7 yrs old) we don't get Buffalo Trace or AAA, etc...and I don't see Weller's 12 year in the big bottle around here, but I'd buy those if I could get them/the price was right.

Because of marketing, there's no reason for me to buy Knob Creek in 1.75L bottles...frequent local sales on the 750ml bottles mean I can buy it cheaper that way than in the larger jug. Waste not want not, most of my aforementioned home 'mingled' whiskey gets rebottled in old Knob Creek flasks.

I would disagree about the Evan W 1783 stuff-I had some earlier this spring in NC, I never saw it before, don't have it here in Chicago as far as I know-and it is pretty good. It's Ten years old, and is absolutely the best thing to mix witha Coke, if you like whisky and Coke, which I didn't before my brother made one with this stuff.
