Hmm, I have OBSO, OESV, OBSF and OBSK and they are all over 9 years (and the OBSF from DrinkupNY is 11y8mo). The OBSF is pushing $60, with the others closer to $50. Although from what I have heard, yes, $65 or so will be around the new going rate for future FR barrel proof selections. Still a decent price for generally outstanding bourbons, but yep, it's annoying like any of these other price hikes (and I guess more annoying if the juice is getting younger along with the price hikes). Oh well.

I just don't see that happening, no how no way. They are increasing production for the export market and they are just at the tip of the iceberg with that.

Not to mention that the barrel proof "honey barrels", that have been feeding the store selection program, will most likely be all dried up by the end of the year.

I understand the frustration with younger whiskey and higher prices. I really haven't paid as much attention to the age difference as the I have the price increase. If I want a specific FR recipe then I have to get what is available assuming I am ok with the price. I know that one larger retailer in Indy increased FR BP prices by $5 in early December, even though the BP were not new selections. They now charge $54.99. At $49.99, they generally had little true competition, other than something that I wanted to try out of curiosity. At $54.99, there is still little true competition but moreso the thought process of maybe I should just buy two of something I enjoy instead of just one of something I really enjoy.

Even more frustrating to me is the price increase in standard FRSB. The same retailer says to expect a $2 price increase soon. That will make standard FRSB $39.99. It has increase in price by almost 50% in the past year. Even, WL12 and OWA haven't increased that much percentage-wise.

A store near me just got a new barrel of OESF and priced it at $50. 4R PS remains a great buy, I think, even closer to $60.

I had a discussion with a local brand representative and their view was they should charge prices that approach the flipper market and that $85 for selected barrel proofs at smaller stores should be expected. Their whole interaction reflected a very discouraging mindset.

State minimum in Michigan (which is a pretty good surrogate for the distiller's desired MSRP) is $65

Boy, I really have to question this strategy as well as the PS barrel proof bottlings at $85. Here in Washington State, they are already at $65-75 depending on the store and I can tell you they don't move fast. Standard single barrel does move well here but I doubt it does if it goes to $50+

I have been on the fence about whether to stock up. On the one hand, I know of some Four Roses barrel selections I really like. On the other, if they want to fleece their fans, I don't want to be part of it. Also, I suspect the really good and old stocks have already been sold and are in the hands of collectors or flippers and any new releases will be lower in quality but with much higher prices. So far, I have stopped buying since I spoke with their local brand representative.

I'm still seeing store selects at $40-45. If they go up to $60-65, I doubt it will be in my regular rotation.
