mbroo5880i
CNBC story...http://finance.yahoo.com/news/drink-bourbon-day-paid-160000358.html"Barnes claims she can do about 50 tastes at 140 proof before her mouth loses sensation. "I would say average tasters go numb after six. The lining of my mouth has acclimated to the intensity of the product we're tasting," she said." Harry in WashDC
Only time I've ever spit out whiskey is when somebody made a funny. Squire made me do it once, and I think TunnelTiger did, and Josh and a couple others. What a waste.
Scotch Neat
I was under the impression that the tasters always cut the spirit with water before sampling it.
squire
So am I but why let facts get in the way of a good story. Seriously though, I think diluted tasting is done in the final stages of preparing a blend whereas undiluted samples are taken while barrels are aging to assess their progress. mbroo5880i
I have been to tastings at retail stores and they often have spit buckets. I have never used them. :shocked:I was also under the impression that distillers diluted product significantly before tasting so as to pull out the nuances of the bourbon and minimize the influence of high alcohol content as they match the profile. mbroo5880i
Just curious, has a woman been the "master" distiller of a major producer in the modern bourbon era (e.g., post-WWII).
