Have any of you tried this yet and if so whats your opinion. Trying to decide whether its worth parting with the $. What's it going for in your area.

Thanks Flahute. I saw that thread and saw a couple of other reviews on it but I haven't seen many recent posts/opinions here now that its available in most markets.

I bought both a Barterhouse and Rhetoric, liked them both but thought they were over-priced. Based on that experience I stayed away from the Old Blowhard, which was even pricier. Even though the reviews for Lost Prophet have generally been good (or at least more consistently so than the others; as always, one's own taste buds are the ultimate arbiter in that regard), I've passed based on the price, and on the notion that the next release, Forged Oak, will be even better and perhaps a bit easier on the wallet. I suspect I'll dive back into the Orphan Barrels when that one comes out.

Oh, and to actually answer your questions, I haven't tried it and it's going for the $125-$135 range.

While there are a lot of opinions on the subject John Hansell really seemed to enjoy it as an example of an older bourbon. I've only had Blowhard and Barterhouse, but the underlying theme with the 20+ yr Orphan Barrels is that they are really heavily filtered. This seems to ensure that they are not gross, but some feel it makes them a bit underwhelming. For me personally, I would jump on the Lost Prophet at $50-$70, but not much more. The truth is that I'd probably end up blending it with something on the opposite end of the spectrum like Stagg Jr or OGD 114 to see if I can get a bit more life out of it, and buying $120-$150 whiskey to blend is a losing proposition.
