Hello everyone. Has anyone ever got their hands on a bottle of Vintage bourbon or Vintage rye. Kentucky Bourbon Distillers puts it out. They come in a a 17 yr and the rye is 21yrs. Is the bottling limited and how often does it come out ?

Those stocks ran out years ago and have been discontinued. It would be quite a find to come across one today.

The 17yr old bourbon first came out as a ryed bourbon, then as a wheater. These are all wheaters and a 21yr rye. The rye came out as a 21yr and 23yr

In case you find one, know that the 17 year bourbon comes as a wheater or traditional rye recipe bourbon (revealed by the font on the back label-there's a thread on here somewhere about it). I was fortunate enough to score a couple of the wheater variety and should have tried to get more when I had the chance.

Since I just took picture of part of my stash, here's the whole Vintage line up with the two different type of 17 yr bourbon.

I searched ("Vintage Bourbon") and read some to refresh my memories and there may be a 25 yr old release as well that I didn't know about.

AFAIK, Drew K. over at Willet debunked the font myth last year in an exchange between himself and SKU. RW&B had a quick blog entry about it.

Edit: this is all pretty irrelevant since it sounds like both versions are good, and the stuff is long gone anyway.

Interesting, I had not seen this! Would be nice to know what the heck is in there before opening, and it sounded like the guys on here knew what was up with that font thing. I wonder why he says the distinction may not matter to people who buy retail--whether I spend $50 or $100 I would certainly like (and expect) to know if I am buying a wheated or rye recipe bourbon.

If you see a Vintage label at retail, does it really matter ahead of time if you know if it's a wheater or a rye based bourbon? I say you buy it no matter what because you know it's in demand. Once in your possession, all you need to do is email Drew about it. He'll respond to you and let you know what it is.

Sure it matters. I buy something if I want to drink it, not because I "know it's in demand" and am terrified someone else will buy it first.

 SB is a terrific resource for information, but it can be a challenge to separate the wheat from the chaff sometimes...

Or wheat from the rye . . . Mystery meat bourbon can be good too!

The V17 bourbons - for me - can be hit or miss. I tried one at a bar in Frankfort and was very disappointed that I paid $15 for a 2oz pour. It was very underwhelming. But I have one open at home and it is the best bottle that I have open. I would pay $100+ for another bottle of the one I have open, and wouldn't pay $50 for a bottle of the one I tried in Frankfort.

What year was Vintage bourbon last produced ?

The last round of the Vintage 17 came out in early 2012.

So inquiring minds still want to know, did you happen to come across some in the wild?

Came across on the Web but way out of my price range, out of this hemisphere actually. Would like a bottle but not at those prices.

For that, try before you buy.

Or else, just think it's just insane.

I'll go with insane. I have a certain price point that I'll go up to and $800 is no where near that.

Nice stockpile, BFerguson!

As to the original price, I paid $55 in 2012, at a store that generally has good prices.

I am down to 3.5 bottles of V17 bourbon. Crying shame, as I left at least 5 others on the shelf at that time a couple of years ago, and would not be able to duplicate today that quality of 17-year bourbon at the going rate back then (around $65).
