elmossle
So placed a call to my usual store yesterday seeing if they could get me a bottle of Rock Hill Farms. I have never tried it and want to add it to the collection. I know I can find a bottle at another store in a different state if I really wanted to. Anyways, get a call back today saying they can't get it anymore and that it has been discontinued??!! Now I'm sure this is just bad information being handed to my store owner from the distributor, but could this be true? Maybe this particular state is no longer being distributed for that particular product. According to whom the owner talked to at distro, Sazerac is pulling plug on this brand. Has anyone heard this? Any intel would be appreciated.Thanks.
Paddy
At least for now, RHF is not going anywhere. Of late, it's actually been much more readily available than ETL in these parts.
KyleCBreese
Seems to be a recurring theme around here. If something isn't available, the distributor tells the owner it is discontinued.
wadewood
False. I suggest you find a new store to do business with.
Flyfish
At least for now, RHF is not going anywhere. Of late, it's actually been much more readily available than ETL in these parts.I bought a bottle of RHF in Homestead, FL last week. No ETL. Have not seen ETL for a long time even though we travel a lot and visit liquor stores everywhere in hopes of finding bourbons not available back home. dcbt
Seems to be a recurring theme around here. If something isn't available, the distributor tells the owner it is discontinued.Or the owner / manager goes rogue and tells the customer this. Some stores are afraid to say "I don't know" so they make something up (Specs, I'm looking at you.)
dcbt
The lesson, as always: more knowledge is found here than 99.99% of all liquor stores, distributors, and other supposed industry "insiders." This actually gave me an idea for a new thread:http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/showthread.php?23435-Liquor-Store-Distributor-Ridiculousness&p=459105#post459105
JGriff
I agree. Had this happen recently with a big box store here in Atlanta. Called one store inquiring about Weller 12 release. Liquor dept said it's been discontinued for Pappy. Called the sister store and they had a case. Another store said ETL is no longer produced by BT. SB is the best and most reliable info for all of us.

kjbeggs
Sometimes it may be a case of "I don't know the truth" or "I'm tired of repeat calls", but i think most times, it's a case of "That's discontinued, so stop looking/waiting for it and let me sell you something else while you are here". squire
The words "it's been discontinued" roll off the tongue just as easily as the phrase "but I've got something here that's just as good".
Harry in WashDC
FWIW, one of the better stores I buy from just put a half dozen RHF on the top shelf. They were still there when I left with my (armload of) OWA from the middle shelf and a Stagg Jr. from the cabinet. If it really were becoming really scarce, I know that they'd have put it in the cabinet so those who know to look in the cabinet could find it - at MSRP of course. Hop
It's not in every store I go to in SC just because some choose not to stock it but it's in enough and I have never seen it out of stock. $49.99 each and I see it selling and being restocked. squire
Donno, but one of my neighbors has a vintage Buick Roadmaster station wagon and when I see it can't help but think what Harry could do with that thing.
Golzee
A grocery store I frequent had RHF on clearance for $33 (I should have bought more than 1). I suspect that they put them clearance to create shelf space. However, they could very well have been have problems keeping it in stock. I doubt that it is discontinued and would blame it's disappearance on the Buffalo Trace Bourbon shortage.
Hop
$33 is a great price! Lowest I see it is $50. I'd have had to stock up

BigBoldBully
ETL and OWA is all over mn & wi.I have only ever seen ETL in Milwaukee. Rock Hill Farms is no longer around here, but at about 50 bucks for NAS under 100 proof I never was that interested.

I think there used to be an old 80 proof version, but every bottle I've ever seen has been 100 proof.
