R-Savage
I've enjoyed the Kirkland Bourbon from Costco. Age stated Beam product at a solid proof for around $20/liter. It seems to get mixed reviews, but at the end of the day, your personal review is all that matters.I have been looking at this one. I like the price ($35.00) and the bottles up here come in a 32 oz bottles. I know I love the Knob Creek, and I don't mind JBB. Should I buy a bottle? R-Savage
Regular old Jack Daniels. Every now and then a glass of that really hits the spot.Yup. I agree. Now that I'm thinking about it..... hmmmmmmm. I have one in the bunker. *Pondering the thought............

anyexcuse
A former boss of mine couldn't believe I voluntarily ordered WT101 during a happy hour. So I promptly ordered a second pour.I've had bartenders ask me if I lost a bet when I've ordered WT101 on the rocks! Most around here don't even know what "neat" means. Should I buy a bottle? My first response is always you never know until you try, but I suppose my second thought be what does Knob Creek cost in Canada? I suppose if they about the same price for the same size bottle, the "value" tends to go away.Run a search on here, I think at one point it was bourbon of the month, but there are plenty of tasting notes on here. zillah
I really love exploring the bottom shelf and constantly find great pours, especially those of the ~100 proof variety, but I haven't found something really cheap enough that I just want to go for over and over other than AAA 10 star. And as long I am blessed with a good amount of spending money, I'll always opt for ETL instead. I am sure I'll get there, though. I need to find a stash of HHBIB 6yr and I think I'll be set. Doesn't stop the looks I get when everyone is excited for the top shelf stuff and I am always looking at the bottom first for something interesting. Golzee
Anybody try Ezra Brooks 90 proof. I have heard it is similar to Evan Williams Black. I bought a bottle the other day for $11, figured if it was terrible, coke would fix the situation.

Go back and take a look at what some folks had to say. That may or may not help you make up your mind about buying a bottle. http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/showthread.php?18714-BOTM-11-12-Kirkland-Small-Batch-BourbonFWIW, I liked it. Another member here got me a bottle one time, and I liked it well enough to buy a couple more when I finally visited a city that had a Costco. If we had a Costco near where I live, I'm pretty sure this one would be a staple in bunker. I'd say give it a try. Cheers! Joe

BigBoldBully
I appreciate that several of us are stepping forward to report redeeming qualities in such bourbons as Old Crow and Rebel Yell. Those two are so consistently maligned on these boards that many have probably been scared away from trying them at any price.

flahute
Not the first to state this here, but despite what a lot of people think (not SB members) I really like WT101. It's my standard order at a bar with a limited selection.

It's my standard order at a bar with a limited selection.WT101 is an enigma to me, currently. Really enjoyed the last few pours from a 750ml, so I went and bought a handle, but the first few servings from that have not done it for me at all. Seems to fall apart by mid-palate. Luckily I saved a little from the smaller bottle (in an even smaller bottle) and will be able to do a sbs.
393foureyedfox
I enjoy WT101. it is a no-frills benchmark for bourbon to me. I often have it while out, as it is often the best of what a bar/restaurant has.
ItsJackNow
As a frequent business traveler, you will always find 4 - 50ml bottles of WT 101 next to my toothpaste and shaving cream in my carry-on. Maybe not my favorite pour, but best available mini in Alabama for the road.
zillah
WT101 is one of those pleasant stand by's when selection is limited but is also a consideration when you have a lot of great choices too. One of those mood pours where you always in the mood. It is always a favorite to come back to. It is even a win when its at a bar because its usually priced like JBW at 21 extra proof!I think Rebel Yell and Old Crow (especially reserve) is pretty damn good, especially when you can get it at places that offer it as a shot with your beer! jvd99
WT 101 is my go to in numerous cruddy bars that have almost no selection over the standard 80-90 proof. I'll never turn it down.
Wild1z
I have a confession to make.. I've had WT101 when I was 16. Never touched it until Saturday past. I'm 46. Lol I tried it and was delighted. Which brings us back to the matter at hand...Watkins from TotalWine. I barreled it for a month. In the barrel is the WT101 handle I bought on Saturday. The Watkins is pretty good post aging. It's got a creamy start, toast, a touch of vanilla and a spice on the end. I'd probably get it again if the budget is tight. Pre-sOak, it's got an edge but it's low proof so... Edited February 12, 2015 by Wild1z
suntour
Co-sign on the Heaven Hill. When I was back in Indiana visiting the last time I led a tasting with some of my parents friends, nobody under 60. They got a kick out of Four Roses being a "good whiskey" now, and everybody looked horrified when I mentioned Heaven Hill products. Heaven and Hell they said, or "nobody but the grossest oldest man would dare touch that stuff."
BigBoldBully
Wild1Z, that centerpiece in the background is a riot. Never heard of Watkins bourbon, but I like the idea of re-barreling the fixer uppers so long as the cost is not crazy. (Last time I looked at the prices of little barrels it didn't seem worthwhile.)
