I recently revisited Forged Oak, after being open for three weeks. It got better. Not enough for me to buy another, but definitely improved.

I tried it Friday night thanks to DBM and I have to say I was completely underwhelmed. I got nothing but barrel flavor notes from it and it tasted pretty thin. At the price they want for it, this one is a super easy pass.

I purchased both the Lost Prophet (for the age) and the Forged Oak (because it's a BT product) and most certainly enjoy the Lost Prophet more. There is so much more flavor, finish, I find it to be a much more satisfying pour than the Forged Oak. I know they are totally different whiskey's, but they seem to get the most attention of all the Lost Prophet bottles.

To me it's just meh but I'm glad I bought a bottle of it as I like to do sbs with all of the orphan barrels now and going forward.

Welllllll...the provenance is Buffalo Trace. Forged Oak was distilled at the George T Stagg distillery, which is now the Buffalo Trace distillery. It is not a BT product in the sense that it was distilled and marketed by BT as one of their own products, though.

Lost Prophet was from George T Stagg. Forged Oak is more Bernheim.

I really wish I could find this in SC. No one can seem to get it. Even the stores that do a decent job of getting limited release stuff.

I bought a bottle in Columbia today. I will try it tonight. Liked Barterhouse okay, but was not a big fan of Rhetoric. Cost $67.

I would be interested to hear your thoughts, I bought a bottle but haven't opened it yet. I finally found MMCS in Minnesota so I had to open that.

Reviving an old thread here.  :D

I had bunkered a bottle and finally got to it yesterday.  It's a shame I probably won't be able to find any of this anymore.  I love it.  It definitely reminds me of Stagg, Jr but not too terribly similar.  It's got some nice, caramel and almost chocolate flavors.  The oak is certainly in there, but the tannins are not very up front.  It's a super easy drinker.  The price tag prevented it from being a slam dunk, but I'm enjoying it.  I hope I can make it last for longer than a few days.
