Killsocket
Being fairly new to bourbon, I thought I could express some thoughts. I have tried Maker's Mark, JB Black, Knob Creek, and yesterday picked up Elijah Craig 12. Getting through most of the Knob Creek (I had a 50ml bottle of Maker's, never went back and lost half bottle of a good JB Black at a party) I think I am finally getting it. Knob Creek is damn tasty and I am noticing the flavors now. Things are clicking. I am particularly noticing the finish, or what I believe to be the finish. Now starting the EC12, I noticed already on first pour over ice (can't get to neat yet) that I know my next pour will be only one ice cube and smaller. Halfway through the drink the ice just took it over. That is progress lol!I am finding that one drink about every other night about 2-3 fingers is enough. Just dipping my toe in the ocean here. Killsocket
The Maker's experience has me leery of wheated bourbons. JB Black was so much better. Not that I will never revisit Maker's again, or wheated, in the future, but for now I think I will stick to the traditional. Before I got the EC12, I was considering the Evan Williams SB instead but will likely be my next choice though I am seriously considering Bulliet too. Thanks for all the kind words and advice. I am finding tons of information here. I know it's just bourbon, but half the time as I am sipping, I keep thinking "where has this been all my adult life?" mosugoji64
Don't let your experience with MM keep you from trying other wheaters. The ones from HH and BT are quite a bit different and well worth a taste.
R-Savage
Agreed, Try the Evan Williams Black (1783) This is a dangerous beast. This will be my staple bourbon while on a budget. I gotta pick up a couple more bottles of this bad boy.I to am developing a taste. I have to dive in to wheated Bourbons I have a WSR in the bunker. Im thinkin I might just crack that.
