Guys, OGDBIB has a cork now. Talk me off the ledge.

At least it appears to be synthetic, which I much prefer over a standard cork, and would not give me any pause...

first the scooby-doo-esque creeper portrait, now a poseur cork. wonder what's next. even the wine world is moving away from, not toward, corks (synthetic or otherwise, apart from the glass ones and the like).

Ah, gee. I depend on the orange caps to find the bottles I squirrel away in the basement. How'm I going to tell OGD from everything else back there?

EDIT: And, it just started to snow. Can't get to the store to load up. Sheesh. Well, guess there's only one thing to do - where's my glass?

Huh, that ugly orange label still remains although it's toned down from the previous hunter-orange label. I'll continue drinking it if with its gussied up packaging. I wonder if OGD114's bottle is being changed too?

I see a price increase in the future . . . they went to screw caps on KC and went back to corks because of some mysterious uproar. They know screw caps are more cost effective. Why why why change?

at least the bottle doesnt LOOK bottom shelf like it has ....forever.

Yeah, but it was so "pedestrian" and "old school" that the kids left it alone, meaning I could ALWAYS find it - on the bottom shelf no less. The orange cap alone was enough to keep them away. I mean, what beverage other than Orange Crush has an orange cap and label? Other than Crush and Tang? And instead of a pen and ink drawing of a bust of an old guy, they have an etching(!) of an old guy just like on our money. And "BONDED" is in white letters on green. GREEN! on orange which stands out better than the old "BONDED". I think the marketers are trying to go upscale; I, too, fear a price increase - maybe to middle shelf level. And that means more people will take a chance and will find out it's good. Oh, the inhumanity. How I going to cope?

Well, there's always VOB BIB, OGD114, HMcK BIB, and, maybe, even the new bottle.

I see a lot of institutional memory lost with the label redesign. You look at OGD labels from the 40's and they are close to the recent ones. I like that, but then again i don't usually buy too much beam OGD!

I liked the old bottle because it was so darn ugly.

Well, maybe the synthetic corks will hold up better than screw caps 20 years down the road for the future dusty hunters. My dusty screw caps break quite often.

I hate it! Keep the old bottles! I can't believe I am thinking of stocking up simply because of a label.

Glad you are in Philly instead of WDC - less competition for me. Also glad my trunk is empty again. Karma timing, I guess.

What's the difference between a cork, synthetic cork or a screw cap as long as the bourbon inside the bottle is good? Just my opinion, but the type of cap makes no difference to me whatsoever. Unless the freaking cork falls apart. :smiley_acbt: It's all good.

For me it largely comes down to long-term storage peace of mind and the research on wines that indicates both natural and synthetic corks are bad for 10-year storage, allowing excessive oxidation. Probably doesn't matter as much with whiskey, but a recent experience with an EC12 has reinforced my preference (after a few years of storage, that big ol' cork shrunk so much it can rattle from side to side and you have to be careful not to tip the bottle). And then there's all those rare breed corks that rip into pieces when I try to get at the stuff.

I don't intend to bunker OGD BIB, so good point. My main beef is that they've admitted that screw caps are cheaper - and I've never seen a company make a change that increases their COGS without subsequently increasing the price they charge. And I don't want to pay for cork (synthetic or otherwise). Of course, there is always an exception to disprove the rule, so maybe if I complain enough - this will be that :D

try to stop twisting them!

I wish we could get the stuff here. Its funny but we go into my local and pickup 4 different btac. But still havent tried these bargain jems that many take for granted.

theres so much OGD sitting on shelves with the ugly orange label, it will be easy to stock up if the label and cap top bother you. after that, you can always decant into an older bottle if it truly bothers you
