Guys, OGDBIB has a cork now. Talk me off the ledge.

I see a lot of institutional memory lost with the label redesign. You look at OGD labels from the 40's and they are close to the recent ones. I like that, but then again i don't usually buy too much beam OGD!

They're even close to the pre-Prohibition design, or were. This is from 1916:

cool posting, I didnt know it was a Wathens brand, or that it was even made in 1916. a quick search says it goes back to 1840, and was sold to the Wathens in 1899. interesting!

I noticed today that it is $20 now in Ohio; not too long ago it was $17. I think I'll be sticking with OGD114.

Check out Chuck Cowdery's blog for a more complete history of the brand.

Hate to think about it, but at the moment, OGD 114 (which already had a cork, and a bitchin' big one at that) is officially cheaper in a number of areas, including mine, than the BIB. Things are upside down after the 30-50% increase on the bonded, but this is obviously a temporary imbalance. And it will not be rebalanced by the BIB coming back down in price ....

The 1840 date is almost certainly wrong. An 1882 date is much more likely.

Never paid much attention to OGDBIB at 100 proof, always thought, what an ugly looking bottle.

I had grabbed a bottle of RR1792 at a store I dont normally drive too, it was a very nice pour so I went back to secure an additional bottle.

I see an ugly orange bottle of OGDBIB for cheap and after reading all the positive comments I take it home.

I am now sipping on it with a touch of water, best way to describe it is candied oranges sprinkled with lots of pepper. Guess I have to go back for another bottle. Not great by any means just different! A hot summer night bourbon.........

This is correct, which is why I just bought 3 114's before they get adjusted upwards.

Was in a VA ABC store today (Sat 28 Feb) & noticed OGDBIB was $2 more this month than it was in Dec ($21.90 today, last month $19.95). OGD114 was on sale for $20.95. Go figure.

  • 2 months later...

I haven't been able to find the new bottle in the Chicagoland area yet.

It hasn't reached Washington State yet either. Total Wine has been flat out of OGDBIB for more than two months now. I stocked up on the old label from BevMo a couple months back so I have enough stock on hand to bridge the gap.
