Headed there on a ski trip. Anyone know if there is anything at the distillery only that I should look for? Also anything fun to do besides ski? We have a car and were thinking of fly fishing but it might rain that day and looking for something else to do.

I don't go to Park City that often. Depends on the elevation, some hiking might be available.

I tried the valley tan at the restaurant while we were out there. It's also available in the gift shop. Kind of a banana cream thing going on. It seemed young but interesting

Never heard of that one, never seen it at the SLS I visit. High West has some stupid distribution going on.

Valley Tan is a young light oat whiskey that was actually distilled by High West. It isn't available in state stores.

OP, you've unfortunately picked a very, um, odd year to come ski. I recommend you get up to the resort as early as possible in the morning, because the skiing has not been great later in the day. I haven't been to Park City for a couple months so can't say for sure but I suspect MTNBourbon is right that you could find some hiking. Definitely can if you come down to Salt Lake.

I do hear that fishing in the Provo River has been pretty damn good.

I heard that there is very little snow which is a bummer which is why I'm looking for alternatives. Crossing my fingers for a big snow day.

Maybe the Midnight Dram or whatever it's called might be around.

I tried to pick one up for another SBer a while back. They're sold out.

last weekend was pretty incredible for skiing. 12-14" at alta and snowbird. not sure what park city got.

midwinter's night dram is out at the distillery but you may find a bottle at one of the state liquor stores. they still had the valley tan and bourye last weekend.

while i was there i got a tour of the new distillery out in wanship by david himself. we tried some pretty incredible whiskies that they are working on... was an unbelievable day to be drinking new product as they were dialing it in. can't wait for a few of these to be released. high west has some incredible new products in the pipeline!

They keep saying that and we keep waiting. HW started out strong, they picked some really good 'orphan' stock to get going but now seem to be in a lull while they try to dial in their own distillate. In the end, I hope you are right, but until then I'll keep waiting patiently.

Way overpriced in my book. There's only about 2-3 that I like from them and one of those is not available anymore.

Agree. The true gems have come and gone and now we're left with over-priced stand-ins.

Where did you see Bourye? All we have in MN is Son of Boureye. I'd love to try the original.

anyone compared them?

sorry for all the questions but does the state liquor stores carry all the regulars like OGD, Rittenhouse, Wellers, etc....?

There are many SLS within UT, not all carry the same stuff. I've never seen any of those in the 2-3 I visit.

Go to that link above and look for what you want.

There is a brief thread about this.

I have the original Bourye and am just waiting to get a new one to do a comparison. Haven't seen it in Georgia yet. I hope to go to SLC sometime this year and in the event "the mountain doesn't come to me" I will try to source it there!

At least some of their upcoming whiskey is much like before with new finishes on familiar whiskey. But the finishes I tried in the samples I had access to were pretty remarkable!

yeah i tried one or two things that were new finishes, that were really quite tasty.

the new batch i tried was a wheat whiskey which was fruity and young, but very good.
