Hello SB fellows. Has any one ever order bourbon from the "The Whiskey Exchange" ? It's a shop in London and has good reviews. They carry Blanton 's that aren't sold in the states. Like Blanton silver and gold bottles and barrel proof along with bourbons from the 70 's and early years. I heard Blanton 's made other expression' s but sold only over sea's.

I ordered a couple bottles of Port Askaig 19 that were on sale from The Whisky Exchange last month. It took them a couple weeks to get it to me (I think that varies by how many shipments they have pending), but everything got here safe sound, with a nice free tea towel too. Depending on if you have anyone home at regular delivery hours, I absolutely recommend having the shipment diverted to a local Fedex store once it gets stateside (assuming the courier sends it Fedex).

Interesting...

How does the whiskey exchange work when ordering from UK to another continent??????? Say Canada for example. I found a lot of great whiskeys from there. but I don't know how that all works. Can someone explain?

Yeah you place an order and pay a lot of money for shipping. Its takes a couple of weeks to get delivered.

Yeah, I paid about $40 for shipping. But the total cost averaged out to about $125 per bottle, which is much cheaper than any cask strength Caol Ila available in the U.S.

Overall, don't look to save any money on bourbon. But they have good stuff we can't get here.

I used to purchase regularly from them, always great packaging and prompt delivery, shipping to australia was always within a week or so, havent ordered a while due to the aussie dollar failing.

I agree. Looking over the shipping charges to the USA not bad. $40 shipping on one bottle of out of reach bourbon not sold in the states isn't bad. Especially for Blanton you know is most likely dam good. I have spent that total price on limited editions here in the states.

I've also purchased a few things there and recently was able to get a GTS but paid about double retail here including shipping. Ever since FR made the announcement that the single barrel LEs were being dropped, that site and MoM got ransacked of all their FR LE SiB!

The shipping becomes a lot more reasonable if you order more than one bottle, FYI.

As to the legality for R-Savage: You'll have to check with your local laws in Canada. I know nothing about Canadian liquor laws except that they seem terrible. In Murrca it is a lot more hazy but TWE does guarantee customs clearance with their shipping price (and potentially some extra fees if you spend too much!). After that, it's up to the law of the state you live in, or have friends and family living in. IE Virginia allows you to ship a limited amount of liquor across state lines per year, whereas Massachussetts does not. Though you can apparently ship liquor within that state. More confusing is that quite a few states allow wine and beer to be shipped, but do not allow shipment of hard liquor.

So far the only difference for me between buying liquor online in America and buying from TWE has been the amount of time it takes for bottles to show up. Frankly, I pay close to $20 per bottle for shipping stateside, too.

thanks eric for that insight. Im going to have to look at that site a little more closely in how it works.

LakeJ Happy Shopping. :)

You have a wife too that watches what you spend?

Yeah, I have looked on TWE a bunch, but have yet to order. I think the worst that happens here in Canada, assuming we are shipping onesies and twosies for personal cosumption is we will get hit with tax and duty on delivery. It really shouldn't be much different than when I do a day trip to northern New York and then have to do the walk of shame to the customs pay counter.

I have ordered from them many times before and never been disappointed once, the only bad thing is the use DHL which I bloody hate as I always get stung charges from customs

Damn when I used them they were shipping with parcelforce and all the custome declarations were 'collectible glassware'.

I remember an article in the newspaper 'exposing' bars dodging duty through TWE, i think this was the begining of the end for us.

I was at the Whisky Exchange last week. It's a pretty great store. Most times I go to look, but it's where I got my 4RSmB125, since I got my bourbon buying crap together too late to catch it in the States. Also bought my Blanton's Gold there. Their wine shop next door is officially our wine store now. I definitely need their advice on wine and I'm not taking that field on anytime soon, so it's nice to be able to get the help of the great people in there.

They're located in the middle of a beautiful marketplace area right next to the London Bridge Underground and National Rail stations.

Thats why now when I order I send it to family who send it on to me as a gift no charges :)

I did see a couple there that has really peaked my interest. There is a huge number of bourbons that I cannot get here in Alberta (Orphan Barrel, Willett's, Rowan Creek, Corner Creek, OGD114). Also a couple of Tennessee Whiskeys that would be great to have.

There are other sites not in the UK but Danish, Dutch and Germany which send goods all over and put low values to reduce charges.

Most of these sites have long been pillaged, Whiskey exchange included.

Bottom line is if your site is google indexed or on wine-searcher, the bourbon nuts and/or the flippers have found all the deals to be had.

The only things really left on the Whiskey Exchange is stuff like Blanton's SFTB that is routinely available in the UK but not here. The rest of their interesting inventory has now been priced to the level of the secondary market.
