As a Birthday present back in Dec, better half bought me a VIP pass to the Beer Bourbon and BBQ Fest in Atlanta which is next weekend. I wasn't completely thrilled (not that i would ever tell her that) as I guess it'll be full of people looking to get hammered rather than a serious bourbon tasting.

However, as I look at the bourbons now listed, Parker's Heritage Promise of Hope, Pappy's 23 yo, Angel Envy Cask Strength and Woodford Reserve Master Collection Sonoma-Cutre finish are all listed. Since VIP gets in 2 hours before the masses, I'm hoping if I get there early enough I'll have the chance to try all four of these before they are gone. Then guess I'll have to make do with Blanton's.

Anyone else ever been to one of these? And if so, what can I expect?

Thanks in advance

Bill

I've been to a similar event in Alanna. You're going to be fine. especially being able to get in early, you'll be long gone before people get wasted. The last barbecue event they did in Atlanta had some really tasty barbecue. Head over to the Four Roses table and look for Randall or Byron. Both good folks

Sorry to say Four Roses doesn't look like they will be there (according to the newest bourbon menu).

I've been to a couple of these and they are generally a pretty good time. VIP is the way to go as there is a very limited amount of the rare ones. They usually have a great variety of beers at these as well, so it can be nice to try a bunch of those once you've tried the bourbons want to try. The one's I've been to haven't gotten too out of hand with people just looking to get blasted but there will most likely be a few of these

I went 3 or 4 years ago. Bought VIP only to have them dump a bunch of VIP tickets 2 for 1 on Groupon the week before the festival. Haven't been back in a few years since we got stiffed for full price. That being said the amount of limited bottles they had was limited, or at least it was that first year I went. I'd get there early and in line if you want to try them, they'll likely go quick.

I figured there would be very little of the rare ones. "Wristbanding starts at 11 a.m. with VIP gate open at 12." Hoping to get there early enough to get a taste of the 4 or 5 bourbons I'm interested in trying. After that, well, Blanton's will do just fine.

Well it's a pass for me then 

Turns out that Four Roses WILL be there. Going to be chilly, but hoping to get down there early enough to try a few of the better bourbons before they run out.
