Quite a surprise to walk in yesterday and find barter house 20-year-olds at such a low price. I do like this bourbon a fair amount and the thinkingI won't see it for less anywhere. Maybe it's time to get one or two.

Up to you, of course; but even though that is a pretty good price for the brand, and even though that one is my fave of the Orphan Barrel offerings that I've tried; I'd still skip it. I gave $70 for the bottle I bought, and thought it was pretty good, though a bit woody. I kind of rated it as one I'd buy again.... for $40 or $45. Of course everybody's tastes are their own. You may fall instantly in love with it.

I have tasted three different bottles of this so far, all with quite different numbered bottles. I found some variance within the bottlings. So far the best has been from the approximately 50,000 area. The one I tasted from the 90,000 area was very strangely soft and quite woody. This may account for some of the diverse opinions regarding Barterhouse. I do agree at an $80 plus price point it would be a no go for me.

Did this need a thread by itself??

Probably not- traffic has been pretty slow in the ol' Premium forum, and since Barterhouse is considered or at least priced as such- what the hell...

So, at what price point (if any) would you buy Barterhouse (or the other Orphans) and consider it a fair deal? Are they jacked up in price in your area or have they gone on discount?

Unfortunately no retailer is ALLOWED to discount liquor in Michigan, more's the pity.

The MI Liquor Control Commission sets a 'State Minimum', under which nobody is permitted to sell, for each brand.

Now, some retailers sell some brands ABOVE St. Min,. and occasionally offer one of those brands at a price lower than it's usual... calling that a "sale", which of course it isn't.

At least around my neck of the woods, the orphan barrel offerings are moving, albeit pretty slowly.

Saw Old Blowhard marked down to $125 today and was intrigued, but passed. Anyone think I should go back and grab one?

Personally, I'd scratch that itch with a bar pour and then go to the local to grab me a 4RSB, HmK BIB, and WTRB for the same $$$.

But, that's just me...
