393foureyedfox
I myself, and probably others too, would like to know how you can give advice on something if you've never tried it. Just sayin'. Sorry if you took it the wrong way. the only 'advice' I gave here was that a Pappy 20 versus EC12/W12 was not a fair comparison, but that he should put that Pappy 20 up against another approximately 20 year old bourbon, preferably a wheater as well. I make it very clear Ive never had any Pappy, or an interest in trying any. As youve noted I make my $50 limit known, which for some reason seems to irritate you over the past few years.back to my point, the orphan barrel offerings are well aged and can be found relatively easily and are at the $100/bottle mark, far less than pappy. EC18 or ER17 may be somewhat hard to find as well, but still easier than a pappy.

TXNewDude
ah, Pappy tasting will have to wait. Stay safe on the roads Dallas comrades...
Paddy
I've been thinking this all along, but tried to stay out of this thread (without success). Read your introduction thread. Somewhere in there you probably got some good advice, in that one should really develop their palate before jumping on the 'cock of the walk'. You really can't appreciate it, until you know what it is. My two cents...
fishnbowljoe
EC18 or ER17 may be somewhat hard to find as well, but still easier than a pappy.Comparing anything to EC 18 is gonna be pretty tough. It isn't currently being produced, and hasn't been for a while, although HH may resume production of it in the (near?) future. The last bottle of EC 18 I saw on a store shelf was over a year ago. Priced to sell too. Only $87.99. :skep: For all intensive purposes, EC 18 is a dusty. Gonna be pretty hard to find.

I would have taken that home with me for sure... even though it's almost exactly double of what it used to go for.If and when it comes out again, I'm sure it will be in the $100 range......damn! TXNewDude
Ended up going to a different bar/restaurant (Whiskey Cake) in Dallas knowing they had Pappy, but not confirming the price beforehand. 20yo = $9523yo = $130I said not today then haha. But I ended up going with the Thomas Handy first($25), which was very good and smooth. Then I had to go ahead and get the William Larue Weller($45). That was amazing. I can't imagine the Pappy could be much better than that, if at all. I know it may not be worth it to some of you, but to me it was. Then again, I wouldn't do it often. B.B. Babington
...recently saw a thread on a facebook group where I guy was asking for a WLW and a SAZ 18 in exchange for a PVW20. I have both the WLW and the SAZ 18. I have $260 into both of those bottles. $260 for PVW20 is an absolute steal by secondary market standards. I wouldn't do it though...Good call. Only way I'd have done that trade is if I was giving up the PVW20 for the other two.
TXNewDude
Finally had a Pappy (15yo). Did it for $40 a pour. That was worth checking it off the list; glad I did it. Now I know it's not worth $500+. It's good and I'll still be hunting it at retail when the time comes (mostly for the fun of it), but I feel like I enjoy many of the easier to find stuff I already have more (typically all the high proof options). Had some Eagle Rare 17 same night. Cant really rate it higher or lower than Pappy at that point. WLW and GTS on the other hand, those are top 2. Definitely need to acquire those bottles before my time is done : )
