Thanks to Bob, we were able to have an 'Old Charter Shootout'! The results were interesting as some chose the Proprietor's Reserve over the 12 yo 'Classic', some chose it the other way around, and Stacy preferred the 10 yo to them all.

And Finally, Stacy would like to thank everyone for helping in making her birthday a very memorable one; She only wishes that Tonya could have been there as well to celebrate. Trust me guys and gals, she was very suprised by the cake, as was I! Cake never tasted so good with bourbon and beer! yum.giflol.gif

I second the thanks to Tonya and Ben. It was a wonderful day, and we all wished Tonya could have been with us! Lots of good bourbon, beer, food, and best of all, being with friends! cool.gifgrin.giftoast.gifdrink.gif

Great to see everyone this afternoon and many thanks to Ben and Tonya for their gracious hospitality. We all wished that Tonya could have been there to join us. To those of you who received some crazy cell phone calls . . . ah, well, not much to say about those! Thanks to all! drink.gif

Looks like you had a great time. I note a couple of things from the bottles pic:

1)Wow! That's an '86 EWSB! If I recall correctly, even Bettye Jo didn't have one of those until recently. I haven't even tried to put together a year set of EWSB because of what I assumed was the impossibility of finding that first-year bottle; and

2)I note the OC Proprietor's Reserve is the Louisville variant. I have a local store that has both the Louisville and Frankfort bottlings. How do any of you feel about relative quality? Or should I just get one (or more) of each?

And, then, there was that 20yo Hirsch...Well, if looks like a lot of great drink.

Hey Bob, how abour a little info on your beer? I just finished bottling a stout myself, and I'm always interested in beers by other homebrewers.

Cliff brought the 86' EWSB Tim. I'm not sure if he got it in or near Japan, I know that's where I had to get mine as well as Chris' to complete out sets. That 86' was a great start to a great line of bourbons!

We were talking about the Louisville and Frankfort bottlings this afternoon and it seemed the general concensus was if you could still find the older Louisville bottlings, grab them!

Yep, there was the Hirsch! lol.gif Not much left when it got there, but happily the rest of the bottle was shared amongst friends who could really appreciate it! toast.gif We wish so many others could have been there as well.

Just last night I was looking at this thread and here it is reappearing today. Cliff had a bottle of '86 EWSB last year. Is this the same bottle or is he traveling around the world to acquire this whiskey? We're all very jealous.

Also was the Weller 10 also a Louisville bottling or did it come from Frankfort.

Just a reminder that Maryland is only a short drive down the NJ turnpike.

If I'm not mistaken, that's the same 86' EWSB that he popped open during the last get together here at my place... Tell me about it, I wish I had gotten more of it while I had the chance, a very fine whiskey indeed and a special one too!

I am not too sure about the Weller Centennial bottling, I really don;t remember. I 'think' it was a Frankfort but Bob has the bottle, maybe he can 'enlighten us'. lol.gif

Are you anywhere near rte 13 in Maryland? Just asking, whenever I go to VA Beach I travel Rte 13 south after crossing the Deleware Memorial Bridge.

It was the same bottle of '86 that we sampled at Mark's this past winter. I found it last November in the Caribbean.

The Louisville OCPR, bottled by UD, is history. The new product, bottled by BT, is now widely available and at a new lower ($23-24) price point in Kentucky. If you can bunker some of the original UD OCPR, by all means do so. It is a refined, well-balanced bourbon -- one you'll be glad to have around for years to come. I've yet to compare it to the new BT OCPR, however, but I expect the new bourbon to be louder and woodier, though less complex (as is the new BT-bottled 12yo OC Classic).

Wanted to thank everyone who came by on Sunday. Had a great time seeing all of you folks. Thanks for all of the goodies you folks left on the table. We should definitely do it again so Tonya can meet the rest of the crew.

Hopefully we'll be able to get to the point where we can get away from the store for a couple of days so we can make it down this year and meet everyone else.

Maybe during the summer, we can have another meet at my place and cook up some bbq for dinner. It'd be great to do it again and this time have Tonya there! As for leaving the 'goodies' on the table it literally is the least we could do for the hospitality you showed us all! toast.gif

Oh yes there is!

So here I am in the middle of a baseball game, and the cel phone in my pocket rings. Who is on the other end but some drunken assholes who are apparently enjoying themselves, but have no understanding of how critical my situation is. One of my coaches asked who it was, and I said that I had no idea, but they were clearly three sheets to the wind. They must not have had much signal, as the connection was cutting out so bad it was almost impossible to understand them. Thirty MPH wind gusts on my end exacerbated the situation. A brief transcript of the conversation follows.

<jim> Hello?

<other end> click BLEEEEEEE click EEEEEEEEE!!!! ha ha ha F**k you!!! HA click HA HA!

<jim> Hey can I call you back, I'm in the middle of a baseball game.

<other end> HA HA click HA!!! A F*CK click ING BASE click BALL GAME??? HA HA HA!!!!! BLEEE click EEEEE!

<jim> F*ck you too. hangs up

After the game, I checked the incoming number. Then it all made sense.

smilielol.gif, you should have seen the silence that filled the room once you hung up on us! We were using the speakerphone built in the cell phone Jim, so that probably attributed to much of the clicks and voices canceling out... I called Bettye Jo before you and she wasn't home and neither was Bobby when he got a call, so you were the first 'lucky one' to answer a phone and hear our 'jubilation' lol.gif

Mark,

No, you would have to hook up to Rte. 95 and cross into Maryland a few miles to Fallston, Md.

However your travels take you straight through Salisbury, Md where my son Dave,Jr attends college ( Salisbury University )and I frequently visit him. Just let me know when you pass by and perhaps we can get together.

In regards to the Weller 10, I have a bottle that was distilled and bottled in Frankfort but it still retains the " Bourbon Heritage Collection " wrapper around the neck. Do the current bottlings refer to BHC?

Oh yeah, I am familiar with the College there in Salisbury... There used to be a Pizza Hut we'd stop in all the time around there! lol.gif I'll KIT next time I know I'm heading down that way and if you are ever coming up near the city, drop me a line if you're near Staten Island.

In the past I had thought taht once the BHC was done away with, they stopped using the logo for it around the wrappers on the necks, as with HH's Very Special Old Fitzgerald 12yo. On those bottles they replaced the BHC logo with capital letters VSOF, but I think on the 'new' centennial and OCPR from BT they are still using the logo on the wrappers.

It's too bad I wasnt at home at the time Mark. I no doubt would have poured a few and joined in!

We got the crap kicked out of us. The opposing coach was real uptight that we had won the first meeting between our teams, so he intentionally ran up the score. In the aftermath of the first game, this same guy told me and my head coach that we didnt deserve to win and would be made to pay.

It's just my $.02, but a 23 year old isn't far enough removed from being 14 to coach kids that age. Kicking an opponent that's already down is a classless act.

OK, I'm off my soapbox lol.gif

There's a college in that town? I was in Salisbury to attend my uncle's funeral last June, but really, I thought it must only have a population of about 5000. I wish that I'd had the time to look around (or been in the mood for it for that matter frown.gif )
