RyeNot
Other than throw empty bottles away, do y'all use them for other purposes? I just finished a bottle of JDSB and my wife has her eye on it for making a lamp with the bottle and a fan pull from the stopper. She is also eyeing the rest of the bar. I was wondering if anybody else uses empties for crafts or other purposes.
Lepisto
I've heard of people being crafty with them, but so far I've been using them to store other bourbon in. Any blends I make, I put into an empty. When I find an old Beam-type decanter, I fill an empty with the contents, so that I don't have to use the decanter. I got a gallon glass barrel of Old Forester from the 70s recently, and it is impossible to pour from, so I'm working on emptying a couple of handles to store that one. dcbt
I scrub off the labels and use them for vats, or for homemade kahlua, or to dilute BPs down to 100 proof. No arts and crafts, though, unless you count a homemade label I may slap on one of the aforementioned items.
Ravensfire
My wife uses empty Blanton bottles as vases. Put some colored stones inside and with the facets catching the light it works quite well.
Richnimrod
I have a 1.75 bottle of 'Rain' vodka that is getting low, and was trying to figure out what the heck to do with it. It's very cool-looking, though for the few years that I've had it I alternately love the look and hate the extra height it takes to store it. I bet it would make a very cool lamp, or base for some avant garde furnishing or other. Any suggestions for this?
mbroo5880i
I use empty EC12 and ECBP bottles as piggy banks.
jonhalter
I am starting to give mine to a pottery teacher. He uses them as guides for the students to wrap for their coil pots/vases. Im assuming he takes the labels off first.
Flyfish
Approaching the end of a RHF. Considering using it as a decanter for a handle of VOB BIB . It's so pretty there are bound to be guests who will enjoy the VOB a lot more than they would have otherwise.

I like the guy, so the idea passed...

dSculptor
I mess around with some and cut the tops off maybe for a BIG glass, or a vase, some are easier to cut than others. going to try my first GTS bottle I think, and make into a nice glass. oknazevad
I work with multiple community theater groups in my area. Their props departments are usually pretty happy to get empties to use on stage (though when used on stage they are filled with unsweetened iced tea, sadly). I got the Early Times version but the spigot that came with it leaked so I went to the local brew supply store and got one that stuck in like a stopper. Works pretty well except you have to pull the stopper on top also when you want a poor.

dSculptor
i want to try this. What do you use to cut the bottles. Hey Enoch, All I do is make a jig with a regular glass cutter, you need to secure the cutter, I use my vise and then just build up a base with any kind of material until it gets to the right height, and then keep constant pressure on it and start turning your bottle, do not overlap the cut. Then the tricky part, you have to run boiling hot water over the cut, then cold water until it fractures the bottle on your cut. Sometimes it takes a few times doing it. Different bottles are harder to do than others, wine bottles are easy, whisky bottles are a bit trickier. I found this guy and went off his advice. I've tried many, lost quite a bit, but hey it's only glass, the BT bottle worked great, so did a RB12. E12.. not so good, came close though. I think the GTS will work good. It seems that if it has a heavy seam on the bottle much harder. Good luck!

Especially Pappiez, the folks they buy mine swear it's the best whiskey they ever had!Lordy, I hope you are kidding. I have a "friend" who just bought a pappy 15 for $1000 off Craigslist. He is the kind that would show up at the door with some friends if he found out he was cheated and get his money back at 10 cents a bruise. After spending two years in a Mexican prison, not much scares him.
