Welcome aboard and good luck Mike. Oh, and thank you for doing it the right way. I hope you are rewarded appropriately!

Friday, I got to work alongside a coworker that I'm usually not around very often. He, like everyone else at my work, knows of my bourbon "hobby". He asked if I'd ever been to the Blaum Brothers Distillery in Galena. I told him I hadn't. I also told him I was pretty sure that the distillery had been discussed here on SB, and that one of the owners was a member. He's not into bourbon like I am, but he suggested I should take the time to visit them. He said it's a nice place with friendly people working there, and that their tasting room is really cool. He's tasted some of their offerings, and said they were pretty good. Looks like I might have have to take a trip to Galena some Saturday soon. I can tell my wife it's so she can visit some antique shops.

Cheers! Joe

Yes it is in fact. Interestingly, his presidential library is located at Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS.

A recent development and a rather interesting location given that armies under Grants command burned the capital, Jackson, MS, not once but twice and pretty much ran roughshod over the state for the last couple of years of the war! He wasn't exactly highly regarded in the area for quite some time. Like a century or more...

Yes, I haven't paid a visit even though it's an 18 minute walk from my front door. I suspect a good number of my fellow Mississippians are not even aware it's here.

My wife and I took a drive in the country yesterday. We headed out towards Galena Illinois, and I finally got to stop in at the Blaum Brothers Distillery. I just missed meeting Mike, but got to spend a little time with Matt. I didn't have time to stick around for the next tour, so Matt was very gracious and gave me the quick nickel tour. :) Great place, with great employees. Everyone was upbeat and friendly, and really seemed to enjoy working there.

These guys are really trying to do things right. They're doing some experimenting and tweaking of their products in order to try and come up with the best product they can. As mentioned before in this thread, it's nice to see a distillery be honest and upfront about what they do. It's especially refreshing for me because they do it with a little tongue in cheek humor added in. And y'all know my sense of humor. I'd much rather have honest advertising with a little humor thrown in, than some of the made up stuff that most of us have experienced in the past from some places. (Templeton Rye for one.)

They only bad thing about my visit was that I didn't have more time to spend there. Oh, and I forgot my bleeping camera.  Blaum Brothers is first on my list of places to visit whenever I'm in the Galena area. I will be back. :D

Cheers! Joe

Thanks for sharing your experience!  You must have liked it enough or enjoyed your experience enough to bring home a bottle! :D

High West is also upfront about sourcing until their own whiskey is ready for market.

That's a great and funny label, Joe. I think I would have bought one as well!
