Rye has always seemed more expensive then bourbon from what ive looked at.there was a Jim beam rye that looked new i was thinkin about gettin though

I would wait for the new green label Beam Rye to show up on your local shelves. Unless you haven't had rye and can't wait, I remember that feeling.

I can't get OGD 114 for less than $30 around me, but if you can find that or OGD 100, those are good choices. Old Weller Antique is always a good choice, and I'm actually pretty fond of Heaven Hill for the price ($10-15).

If you really want to power up your cocktails, try Booker's. The proof varies by batch, but they're up over 122-pr, I think.

At leat I don't recall seeing any below that.

Booker's is a very tasty Bourbon to sip really slowly (if you're sipping neat), or to slosh over a couple small ice cubes, or one big one, if you're into cold Bourbon.

That sucks cuz this place has the best selection I have found nearby and it's the only place I have seen OWA... and I am 99% positive they had a state min sign in their window (but obviously that is no guarantee).

You may want to bookmark the link below. It is the Mich LCC website where they list state minimums and they keep the list up to date.

thx, seen that before. looks like min is $25 so both places I went that have big state min pricing signs in their front windows are not actually min on some things. my 4rsb I got was at least priced at state min.

I wish we had those prices (aka that low of liquor taxes) in the midwest. I got a OWA tonight from a supposedly state min price store for $34 + 6% sales tax.
Assuming you in Michigan, unless they jacked the prices up this year - that's well over state min. I bought a store select OWA in Livonia around Christmas for around $25 (and my dad picked up a Handle for just over $50).

I was remembering wrong. I bought a bottle of OWA107 today at a different store for $25. I think I was recalling the prices on 1792.

That's gouging on the 1792 too! Last bottle of that I bought was $22.

You guys have lower liquor taxes in IN based on what my buddy pays for things I have bought. State Minimum on the 1792 Small Batch is 31.99 in MI.

Totally agree! It's very hard to beat at the price point. I get a lot of caramel, spices, and I like it right from the bottle with no down proofing.

$13.99 where I live. I hope it stays that way.

if i was a bettin' man, and I'm not, Id say HHBIB gold was discontinued only by label. it now just wears the EWW label and costs 50% more

I'm sure it's the same stuff. Like everything else though, the price varies depending on location. EWW is easy to find for 10.99 here. The only Heaven Hill brand labels I've seen in town are the 80 proof half-gallon bottles. I'd like to try the HH6BIB though.

As long as HH produces quality BIBs at good prices I really don't care which label they use.

Did someone really just suggest Bookers in a 20 dollar bourbon thread?

If I could get Bookers for $20 I would have an awful lot of Bookers in my basement.

SBers tend to be a polite, drink-it-your-own-way lot. Still, I'm surprised that nobody has suggested, if you are looking for something "to mix with," it may not matter a great deal which bottom shelfer you buy. It's all good. Some are just gooder than others when taken neat.

Yep, as long as it says 'straight bourbon' on it, the bar is already pretty high.

I think everyone would have a large number of Bookers stocked up if it was 20 bucks a bottle.

serious suggestion would be OGD 114.....or for a few dollars over 20 Henry McKenna BiB. When I want an old fashioned that's the bottle I go for.

I'll also recommend EWBiB (aka EWW). $11/750ml here & I just recently started seeing handles of it for about $23
